Director, Data Analysis - US Card Data
As Capital One continues to mature its Business Intelligence and Analytical capabilities, we are seeking a dynamic, high-performing Director, Data Analytics to lead its adoption of Big Data tools and other developing data technologies, both proprietary and open source. This position will have a significant impact on the business, so we are seeking someone who can take charge, think big, and deliver on their commitments.
As the Director of Data Analysis in US Card, you will lead development and execution of data products and aggregations to support business decision making, product strategies, modeling and valuations. The Director will oversee a team of data analysts ensuring the collection, standardization, aggregation, analysis, and interpretation of complex data sets to drive efficiency and growth.
The role involves collaborating with cross functional teams (business, data, product, tech) to implement destination Internal Card data strategy. They will establish best practices of data governance, ensure data accuracy and quality and provide strategic guidance to senior leadership and business for effective data management and governance. This position will be in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment where you will be handling multiple concurrent projects while working independently and in teams. An ideal candidate will possess strong problem solving and conceptual thinking abilities in addition to communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Prior experience creating organization roadmaps and driving strategy execution.
On any given day you will be:
  • Leading the US Card analytical team
  • Driving data source and tool innovations based on stakeholder data needs, including adoption of Big Data technologies and development of a program to train and enhance associate skill-sets
  • Creating leading-edge data products that uncover opportunities for improvement in our US Card portfolio and processes
  • Leading governance of our data assets, including development of a governance plan and structure
  • Providing strategic leadership on large cross-functional horizontal initiatives
  • Reporting on data analysis activities to partner groups, incorporating novel reporting and data visualization techniques
  • Partnering with diverse stakeholders (from Analysts to Executives) to deliver horizontally and vertically
  • Actively championing the usage and adoption of data tools and solutions across the entire US Card Data Analyst community
  • Working in an agile fashion, managing the stakeholder set and capacity for the team

Key accountabilities:
  • Partner with various engineering and enterprise functions in adopting and informing data flow standards across ingestion, transformation, access and publishing
  • Driving data source and tool innovations based on stakeholder data needs, including adoption of cloud native technologies
  • Development of a program to train and enhance associate skill sets and actively championing the usage and adoption of data tools and solutions across the entire RDB Data Analyst community
  • Lead the ongoing migration from an on-premise implementation to a cloud based (AWS) implementation
  • Strategic orientation in their ability to define roadmaps in an incremental way to support business goals

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree plus at least 9 years of experience in data analytics, or Master's Degree plus at least 7 years of experience in data analytics, or PhD plus at least 4 years of experience in data analytics
  • At least 5 years of Professional Data Analysis experience
  • At least 5 years of People Management experience
  • At least 2 years of Big Data technology experience
  • At least 2 years of Data Visualization experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree
  • 10+ years of Professional Data Analysis experience
  • 5+ years of Big Data experience (AWS and Spark)
  • 5+ years of cloud native (AWS) data processing experience
  • 5+ years of Process Management experience
  • 5+ years of Project Management experience
  • 5+ years of experience with Python
  • 5+ years of Data Governance experience
  • 2+ years of experience with streaming data technologies (Kafka, Flink, Spark streaming)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $230,400 - $263,000 for Director, Data Analysis
Richmond, VA: $209,500 - $239,100 for Director, Data Analysis
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
