Who we are
Cigna Investment Management (CIM) manages or oversees more than $35 billion in assets on behalf of The Cigna Group. CIM invests across public and private corporate bonds, commercial mortgages, private equity, private credit, real estate equity, public equity, and short-term investments.
What we are looking for:
The Investment Actuary helps manage The Cigna Group's U.S. insurance, international insurance, and pension portfolios. This role combines strategic leadership, technical expertise, and cross-functional partnerships to support portfolio management and investment decision-making. The ideal candidate has experience in insurance portfolio management or asset-liability management, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to balance strategic thinking with attention to detail. Success in this role requires effective collaboration across business and investment teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage assigned international and U.S. insurance portfolios, including portfolio strategy development and monitoring, liquidity management, credit, risk monitoring, purchase and sale implementation, and investment allocation.
  • Analyze portfolio strategy and risk management scenarios, incorporating regulatory requirements, liquidity considerations, counterparty exposure, and investment income objectives.
  • Evaluate derivative hedging strategies and prepare investment recommendations and strategy memoranda.
  • Monitor advancements in financial and investment modeling, risk measurement and analytics, while recommending practical applications to improve portfolio management for the project management team.
  • Partner with portfolio analysts to develop client reports, senior management presentations, and portfolio management materials.
  • Lead the investment allocation process for insurance portfolios, collaborating with asset teams on deal specifics, relative value assessments, and portfolio objectives.
  • Leverage AI tools and technologies to improve productivity, enhance analysis, automate routine processes, and drive more effective business outcomes.
  • Manage the quarterly Net Investment income review process in partnership with CIM finance.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS in a related subject
  • Required: FSA/ASA designation
  • Preferred: CFA, CPA, MBA, or other advanced financial designation
  • Minimum of 8 years of investment experience
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with demonstrated intellectual curiosity, accountability, adaptability, and a sense of urgency, flexibility, ownership, and organizational agility
  • Advanced understanding of pension and insurance investing concepts, including ALM, LDI, RBC, and regulatory requirements
  • Advanced understanding of investment accounting principles and their impact on portfolio management across multiple relevant accounting frameworks, such as insurance regulatory, U.S. GAAP, IFRS, and tax accounting
  • Ability to accommodate limited travel (up to 10%)
  • Flexibility to participate in calls after normal business hours with international customers
  • Position located at our corporate headquarters in Bloomfield, CT with a hybrid work arrangement (3 days in office)

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 137,900 - 229,800 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
