Associate Creative Director, Copy (Remote)
Overview:
Weedmaps is seeking an Associate Creative Director, Copy to help shape the company's voice, messaging systems, campaign concepts, editorial storytelling, and brand communications across social, lifecycle, creator, editorial, and product marketing initiatives. This role serves as both a creative leader and strategic storyteller responsible for developing culturally relevant ideas, platform-native campaigns, compelling narratives, and scalable messaging frameworks that build trust, participation, and affinity with Weedmaps audiences.
The impact you'll make:
  • Lead development of campaign concepts, messaging systems, social narratives, creator storytelling, editorial framing, and lifecycle marketing copy.
  • Help define and evolve the Weedmaps voice across social, editorial, campaign, creator, and product experiences.
  • Develop culturally relevant creative ideas that resonate with modern audiences and platform behaviors.
  • Translate audience insights and business objectives into compelling narratives and creative platforms.
  • Partner with Editorial, Social, Lifecycle, Growth, Product Marketing, and Production teams to develop integrated campaign messaging.
  • Build repeatable storytelling systems and content frameworks that scale across channels.
  • Ensure messaging maintains consistency, clarity, brand alignment, and cultural relevance.
  • Support development of AI-assisted copy workflows, prompt systems, and messaging governance standards.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, creative briefs, and concept development initiatives.
  • Stay current on internet culture, creator ecosystems, audience behaviors, and emerging communication trends.
  • Provide creative leadership and mentorship to copywriters, freelancers, contributors, and creative partners.
  • Review and approve copy across campaigns, content, lifecycle marketing, and brand communications.
  • Establish standards for voice, tone, messaging quality, and creative excellence.
  • Help develop creative processes, workflows, and content governance systems.
  • Collaborate with Creative Leadership on staffing, resource allocation, and workload planning.
  • Foster a culture of strong conceptual thinking, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to long-term creative strategy and organizational development efforts.

What you've accomplished:
  • 8+ years of experience in copywriting, creative strategy, editorial storytelling, or creative leadership roles.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating campaign development, messaging systems, social storytelling, scripts, and conceptual thinking.
  • Experience creating content across social, editorial, integrated marketing, and digital channels.
  • Strong understanding of audience behavior, platform-native storytelling, and content strategy.
  • Proven ability to develop compelling creative concepts that drive both engagement and business outcomes.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders and creative teams.

Bonus points:
  • Experience building brand voice systems and messaging frameworks.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted writing tools, prompt development, and content workflows.
  • Experience working within lifestyle, media, entertainment, technology, or cannabis-related brands.
  • Strong editorial instincts and ability to balance creativity with business objectives.

The base pay range for this position is $136,000 - $160,000 per year
