Overview

Executive Director, Creative & Business Operations - AIO Job Description posted June 30, 2026. Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado. Focus on the Family has nearly 700 employees focused on enriching the lives of families, engaging the culture, advocating for life and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Executive Director, Creative & Business Operations - AIO leads the creative vision and execution of all animation projects, ensuring content aligns with brand standards, mission objectives, and storytelling excellence. This role oversees the creative process from concept to final delivery and provides guidance and approvals across scripts, visuals, music, and casting. It also serves in a creative advisory role to the Executive Producer, AIO Audio.

Responsibilities
  • Define and approve the creative vision for animation scripts, visuals, music, and casting
  • Provide final approval on all creative content for animation projects
  • Ensure all new content is on-brand and mission-aligned
  • Oversee creative strategy for a $14M production budget
  • Script Development: review premises, drafts, and Story Editor polish; perform final polish to ensure brand and character consistency
  • Attend brainstorming sessions and resolve creative questions from writers and Story Editors
  • Team Management: manage a team of Animation Story Editor, Director, and AIO Production Manager; mentor the AIO Audio Executive Producer on creative decisions when requested
  • Collaborate routinely with the Story Editor and other creative team members
  • Production Oversight: attend recording sessions and provide final approval on session choices; meet weekly with Director, Producer, and Line Producer for production updates; review all animation assets and animatics; participate in score meetings with Music Supervisors, Directors, and Composers
  • Business Operations & Budget Management: develop, manage, and monitor the annual Audio Drama production and operating budgets; partner with Finance and Marketing to prepare annual budget plans and forecasts; monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and recommend adjustments; approve and prioritize production expenditures within budget authority; oversee financial planning for animation projects including schedules, resource allocation, vendor expenditures, and contract budgets; provide regular budget updates and operational insights to executive leaders; identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and production workflows; collaborate with Finance, Procurement, Legal, and other departments to ensure policy and financial controls; interface with Product Marketing, Audio, Family Advancement, Office of the President, Global Services, and Relationship Services; work with Global Ministry Development on foreign language expansion; collaborate with Product Marketing on promotional strategies
  • Additional Responsibilities: attend weekly Animation Core Team meetings and marketing meetings as requested; conduct interviews and attend fundraising events when needed; serve as a creative consultant for other-brand fiction animation projects
  • Other Duties/Responsibilities: perform other duties as assigned, including development of copyrightable works for distribution in all media and formats
  • Managerial Breadth/Scope: responsible for activities of staff and freelance workers; ensure brand continuity
  • Working Environment/Physical Requirements: travel for recording sessions, networking, conferences; occasional travel including nights and weekends

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, or Communications
  • 10+ years of experience in radio drama and staff management
  • Background in radio is helpful
  • Deep knowledge of Focus on the Family’s mission, philosophy, values, and objectives

Pay Range: $113,988 to $131,616
