As a member of the CDS IT Management Team, you are responsible for managing, developing, and leading a team of employees. Your role includes leading the specific functional responsibilities of your team, which involves overseeing team performance and deliverables. However, your role as a leader within our organization requires more than the management of resources and day-to-day operations. As a steward of the company, you are charged with the development and execution of your team's strategic vision and plan and ensuring that your team's actions align with the larger goals of the company and the IT Division.

As the Director of Architecture, you will be responsible for leading and governing the design of the future-state technology blueprint for our entire organization. This senior leadership role shapes and executes the overarching EA strategy, requiring you to lead a high-performing team while specializing in one of three core competency centers: Architecture Practice, Business Capabilities, or Technical Capabilities. This position demands a unique blend of deep technical expertise and business acumen to collaborate with and influence C-level Executives and Senior Engineering Leaders. Your primary objectives are to create a unified, future-proof architecture that aligns with our core strategic business objectives, driving digital transformation, innovation, efficiency, and ensuring all technology investments are scalable and secure.

  • Risk Management: Assess and mitigate technology risks, ensuring that security, compliance, and data privacy requirements are met across all architecture decisions.

  • Team Leadership: Leads and mentors a team of Costco Architects, providing guidance, coaching, and support in their professional development.

  • Vendor Management: Evaluates and selects technology vendors and partners to ensure they align with the company's architectural standards and goals.

  • Budget Oversight: Manages the budget for architecture initiatives, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and cost-effective solutions.

  • This is an in person full-time management/leadership position (45+ hours per week).

REQUIRED

  • 7+ years in Managing architecture and governance organizations.

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in technology.

  • 7+ years in an enterprise architecture role. 

  • 5+ years leading enterprise (cross functional) efforts.

  • 5+ years' experience in IT operations, business team management, or application management.

  • 5+ years' experience in business relationship management, including Executive level stakeholders.

  • 5+ years' experience driving core system technologies. 

  • Proven expertise in managing complex projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams is essential.

  • Proven leadership experience in enterprise architecture and/or engineering enablement role.

  • Expertise in enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) and architectural modeling tools. 

  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills crossing multiple platforms.

  • Proven experience in software development patterns and practices.

  • Expertise in developing engineering standards and tooling landscapes.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong knowledge of retail industry practices and trends.

  • Demonstrable ability to drive change and influence stakeholders.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Enterprise Architect) a plus.

  • HIPAA Training and Supervisors Orientation (within 30 days of hire); Leadership Development 101 (within one year); Costco Pay Policies (within 90 days of promotion).

Pay Range: $160,000 - $230,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
