Job description


The Director, Consumer Lending is responsible for growing, managing, and controlling the Credit Union's consumer loan portfolio, including the credit card portfolio, signature loan portfolio, second mortgage portfolio and other consumer loan portfolios. These duties include responsibility for corporate policies and procedures regarding consumer lending activities, providing long-term portfolio growth while maintaining appropriate credit quality and compliance with applicable loans. These duties also include responsibility for partner-employees who work in these functional areas.
1) Overseeing the management efforts of the Consumer Lending Managers, Business Control Analysts, and Loan Review Analysts by setting performance standards and goals, preparing functional plans, preparing budgets, and managing priority tactics that enhance performance of the loan portfolio, member satisfaction with consumer lending, and partner-employee work performance and environment. (30%)
2) Provide oversight with FCRA and ensuring assigned business units are operating efficiently and reliably, are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and rules, have appropriate operating controls to mitigate risk, and are performing at a high level and delivering required results in a way that is member-focused and convenient and easy for members to use. (20%)
3) Serve as the primary point person and consumer lending subject matter expert with the Compliance Department, Legal Department and Risk Management Department on tasks associated with making sure the Consumer Lending Department is operating in compliance and mitigating the inherent risks that come with consumer lending and collaborating with departments within the Consumer Lending areas to ensure consistency and strategic alignment. (20%)
4) Serve on appropriate lending committees and provide pertinent information relating to consumer lending through data, trending, and making recommendations for adjustments to the consumer lending program. Working closely with senior lending management, including the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Lending Officer, Vice President of Consumer Lending, and other members of the senior leadership team to identify and make appropriate adjustments to align with the credit union's risk appetite for credit risk as measured by the key risk indicators monitored by the Enterprise Risk Management Committee and implement strategic initiatives to improve the credit union's consumer lending offerings to its membership and improve the overall member experience as it relates to consumer lending. (15%)
5) Working closely with external auditors, regulatory agencies, third party lending partnerships, and administrators of the vendor oversight program. (10%)
6) Managing and underwriting difficult, complex loans and resolving issues beyond the ability of the management team. (5%)
Required Skills
A. Specialized or Technical Knowledge and Skills: The Director, Consumer Lending must possess the following knowledge and skills:
1) A Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business Management, or related field is required. Candidates with a non-business Bachelor's Degree may qualify with considerable experience in the primary areas of responsibility.
2) A minimum of five years' experience in consumer lending at a financial institution is required. Prefer experience in a Credit Union Consumer Loan Department.
3) A minimum of five years management or supervisory level experience with proven abilities of effectively leading a team.
4) Demonstrated ability to analyze, reason, problem solve, and prioritize work independently.
5) Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations and solve problems and / or design recommendations to accomplish business and tactical goals.
6) Possesses all required NMLS, State, and Safe Act Licensing requirements as required for control purposes.
7) Director level written and verbal communication skills are required.
8) Demonstrated intermediate knowledge with Microsoft Office products.
9) NMLS is required.
