Job description

The Department of Pathology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time, non-tenure-eligible Clinician-Educator at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor to fill the role of Vice Chair and Director, Clinical Pathology. Responsibilities include achieving diagnostic excellence; demonstrating exceptional leadership and communication skills; and maintaining a national reputation as an academic leader in Clinical Pathology.
The successful candidate will be a critical leader within the Department of Pathology and will work closely with the Chair and other Vice Chairs to guide the Department during this exciting period of expansion and innovation. There is also an opportunity to serve as the Medical Director of the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Clinical Laboratories. The successful candidate will be an essential leader and member of our Executive Laboratory Committee, which oversees the integration and operation of the Clinical Laboratories throughout Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, including 11 hospitals and numerous ambulatory cancer center laboratories.
Candidates may have a focused area of clinical interest within one of the many subspecialties of Clinical Pathology. The selected faculty member should have a record demonstrating creativity, productivity, leadership, and scholarship. The role also includes working with the Educational and Research leaders of the Department to oversee the training, mentoring, research, and education of medical students, residents, and fellows in Clinical Pathology. The Feinberg School of Medicine offers excellent opportunities for translational study, and the ideal candidate will have a strong interest and background in translational research.
Qualified candidates will hold MD or MD/PhD degrees and be board-certified in CP or AP/CP by the American Board of Pathology. Candidates must be eligible for an unrestricted medical license in the State of Illinois. Fellowship training or other significant experience in Clinical Pathology is required. Rank and remuneration will be determined by qualifications and experience.
The start date is negotiable, and the position will remain open until it is filled.
The expected base pay range for this position is $325,000 - $378,000 dependent on rank, years of experience, leadership roles, and other academic factors
Northwestern University has provided a pay range representing its good-faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be based on factors including (but not limited to) the candidate's experience and qualifications, including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline-departmental budget availability, internal comparators, and external market pay for comparable positions.
