Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
McCarthy's self-perform mechanical team is seeking a motivated Operations Director to join our team. The Operations Director serves as a key member of our mechanical leadership team and will manage all construction efforts from pursuit to construction on assigned project. This includes managing client relations, coordinates preconstruction efforts, oversees planning and construction efforts. This role is located onsite in McCarthy's Chandler office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
PRECONSTRUCTION PHASE
  • Lead business development effort. Continually work to build relationships with internal/external clients, subcontractors, and owners.
  • Partner with preconstruction in the development of the overall preconstruction effort.
  • Lead constructability reviews and development of project execution plan.
  • Coordinate internal resources to pursue opportunities.
  • Attend key preconstruction meetings, understand project risks, complexity, assumptions and clarifications.
  • Generate general conditions and work with Preconstruction Director to ensure necessary project staffing is coordinated.
  • Lead design build efforts and coordinate with owner/designer throughout the design phase.
  • Review and approve the Chart of Accounts

CONSTRUCTION PHASE
  • Provide overall leadership to the project staff.
  • Serve as a liaison between the office and field. Foster company spirit and enthusiasm, pride of work, accountability for actions and support field staff training and growth.
  • Oversee mechanical review planning efforts, ensure plans are thorough and address all project risks.
  • Coordinate executive planning review meetings with all stakeholders.
  • Coordinate staffing and movement of self-perform field personnel with other Operations Directors; ensure adequate staff resources are on site in a timely manner.
  • Anticipate problems and be available to assist in resolving problems as requested by project staff.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the McCarthy/Owner contract and oversee field operations to achieve contract compliance.
  • Assist the project staff in the development of the construction schedule. Monitor schedule performance.
  • Monitor labor cost for problem areas or waste and implement prompt corrective action as required. Review methods of approach for opportunities to reduce labor risk.
  • Monitor the job cost report to ensure all required maintenance is performed and costs are reflected accurately.
  • Manage monthly/quarterly/year end profit projections with the Project Manager. Review projections with VP Ops and Business Unit Leaders. Maintain a thorough understanding of internal/external contingency amounts and use authorizations
  • Ensure quality program is being implemented.
  • Be available to the project staff to help with issue resolution.
  • Champion jobsite safety effort, motivating the onsite team in the implementation of McCarthy Safety Guidelines. Perform Monthly Project Director Safety Inspection.
  • Recommend self-improvement programs that may assist employees in their professional and personal development.

OVERALL
  • Assist the Marketing Department in the preparation of presentations and interviews; participate in interviews as necessary.
  • Foster relationships with both internal and external clients.
  • Identify potential hiring candidates and participate in interviews of new hire candidates, as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or engineering required.
  • Experience leading multiple mechanical projects of $40M+.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical construction principles/practices required.
  • Proven experience managing HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing preconstruction efforts.
  • Proven experience planning complex mechanical projects.
  • Experience building and leading large teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Self-starter and highly motivated.
  • Excellent follow-up and open issues resolution.
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values.
  • Ability to communicate with, present to, build trust in and influence others internally and externally
