Job description

Managing Director, Investments & Client Engagement

Minority Business Accelerator, LLC (Accelerator) is an affiliate of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, established as a separate legal entity in April 2021, with the launch of the Minority Business Accelerator Fund I.

The Accelerator has a 20‑year legacy of preparing African American and Hispanic owned businesses for scalable growth, supporting over 75 enterprises, generating roughly $2 billion in revenues and more than 3,500 jobs.

Our Firm: Minority Business Accelerator Fund I (MBA Fund I) launched December 2022 to address equity and growth capital gaps for entrepreneurs of color. The Fund provides equity and flexible debt to minority‑owned businesses seeking scale.

Position

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Managing Director of Investments & Client Engagement will oversee the investment activity of MBA Fund I and manage client engagement for both the Accelerator and the Fund.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the CEO to oversee MBA Fund’s investment portfolio of securities and client engagements.
  • Manage and develop the credit and investment underwriting process, including risk ratings, scoring, compliance, and performance monitoring.
  • Work directly with entrepreneurs applying to the Accelerator or MBA Fund to assess viability, conduct due diligence, and create financial models and forecasts.
  • Apply multiple valuation methods (comparable companies, precedents, discounted cash flow, etc.) to support acquisitions and investment decisions.
  • Prepare, analyze, and review investment memoranda, management presentations, and other deal materials for financing and investment decisions.
  • Brief the Member Advisory Committee, Investment Committee, and Board of Managers on proposed acquisitions, investments, and client opportunities.
  • Identify and cultivate sources of debt and equity financing relationships.
  • Ensure company policies and legal guidelines are communicated and followed throughout the organization.
  • Simplify and communicate complex financial concepts to stakeholders, banks, CPAs, attorneys, and brokers.
  • Lead the preparation of documents and materials for Investment Committee meetings and third‑party capital providers.
  • Serve as a brand ambassador, strengthening the company’s profile.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Business Administration preferred; minimum 15 years of relevant experience in lending, investments, underwriting, and analysis, or equivalent.
  • Financial Industry Regulatory Authority Series 7 or 66 license preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in deal structuring, valuations, and financial/business analysis.
  • At least 10 years of experience evaluating and structuring mergers and acquisitions.
  • Superior understanding of sourcing, structuring, modeling, valuing, and closing equity and debt financings.
  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal, and relationship‑management skills.
  • Advanced sales, networking, and presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, team‑based environment.
  • Comfortable with a hybrid office schedule, 3‑4 days per week in the downtown office; first 30 days onsite for onboarding.
  • Proven leadership experience.
Work Environment

The role is based in a climate‑controlled downtown office, primarily desk‑bound with minimal travel. The position requires extended periods of sitting, researching, and computer work, with occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
