Position Location
This position is located onsite in Charlottesville, VA.
Job Overview
The incumbent who holds the valid license, shall at the discretion of the Chief Engineer be able to stand an engineer's watch. Repairs machinery or mechanical equipment. Work involves most of the following: examining machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble; dismantling or partly dismantling machines and performing repairs that mainly involve the use of hand tools in scraping and fitting parts; replacing broken or defective parts with items obtained from stock; ordering the production of a replacement part by a machine shop or sending the machine to a machine shop for major repairs; preparing written specifications for major repairs or for the production of parts ordered from machine shops; reassembling machines and making all necessary adjustments for operation
Employee shall also perform Carpenter duties to include, but not limited to, framing and finish work, painting, staining, etc., as well as the design, construction, installation, and repair of wooden fixtures such as cabinets, furniture, shelving, doors, plaques, and other custom wood products.
Pay Rate: $51.88 / hour
Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
  • Uses a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, and standard measuring instruments.
  • Respond to emergency site maintenance as required.
  • Able to inspect and diagnose problems to determine corrective repairs.
  • Perform on call and preventive maintenance duties as necessary.
  • Supports and assists other department staff and trade groups as needed or directed.
  • Adheres to the established Chugach safety, personnel policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Mandatory:
  • High school graduate or equivalent GED.
  • Requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
  • Familiarity with basic mathematical functions is required.
  • Ability to work a schedule of 8 days on and 6 days off.
  • Good working knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to pass a pre-hire background and drug screen.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required intelligence community level clearance.
  • Valid state driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Preferred:
  • Trade certifications in mechanical, electrical, plumbing and/or carpentry.
  • Competency in Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and team lift 75 pounds.
