About this Location:

This position is located at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in San Luis Obispo, CA. Nestled in the heart of California's Central Coast, our all-suite hotel offers convenient access to downtown SLO, local wineries, and scenic hiking trails. Surrounded by rolling hills and just minutes from the beach, our property provides the perfect home base for guests to relax, explore, and experience the charm of the Central Coast.


Why do we need you?

The hotel Chief Engineer is responsible for the entire facilities operations including all Fire Life Safety system testing and maintenance, mechanical, plumbing and electrical equipment preventive maintenance and repairs. The Chief Engineer implements necessary plans to meet and exceed brand standards for guest room preventive maintenance. The Chief Engineer works closely with the General Manager and corporate partners on the hotel capital expense projects. The Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring hotel employees and guests have a safe and well maintained hotel property. The Chief Engineer ensures the hotel takes all necessary steps to avoid operational disruption that could have negative financial impacts.


What you will do:

  1. Supervises, develops, and maintains an ongoing preventive maintenance operation for the hotel, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, hotel guest and meeting rooms, A/H units, ice machines, swimming pools, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency generators, water softeners, switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical substations, etc.
  2. Ensures all projects are completed according to specifications and are completed on time.
  3. Works closely with all department heads including Housekeeper and Front Desk Manager to ensure coordination of activities.
  4. Establishes a training program for the engineering department to ensure base knowledge of the hotel main systems including first responder activities, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing shut offs.
  5. Partners with Human Resources and Security vendors to implement the First Responder program and hotel safety initiatives.
  6. Meets with 3rd party vendors such as general contractors, trades service people, architects and designers to develop project scopes. Participates in the capital expense budget planning, scheduling and closeouts. Partners with corporate for capital expense approvals and project execution.
  7. Performs work within departmental expense plans.
  8. Studies work schedules and estimates worker-hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
  9. Interprets specifications, job orders, and company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  10. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules, recommends measures to improve production.
  11. Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics, which inspire employees to meet and exceed standards.
  12. Required to be always in uniform when working on the property, including wearing a name identification badge.
  13. Recommends or initiates personnel actions, such as training, promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures.
  14. Maintains time and production records.
  15. May estimate, requisition, and inspect materials.
  16. May set up machines and equipment.
  17. Supports and adheres to the core values, the mission statement, service fundamentals, and guest service philosophy as defined by the company.
  18. Consistently measures progress on all activities and makes adjustments to processes including holding staff and vendors accountable for commitments.
  19. All other duties as assigned by a manager or supervisor.
