Job description

Description
The Director of Faith Formation provides leadership, vision, and oversight for the parish's catechetical and adult faith formation programs. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive faith formation initiatives for children, youth, adults, and families. The Director fosters spiritual growth rooted in Catholic teachings and traditions while supporting sacramental preparation programs, including Grades 1-8 Faith Formation, OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults), and other parish faith development opportunities. The ideal candidate is a practicing Catholic in good standing with a strong commitment to Catholic doctrine, evangelization, and parish ministry.
The Director of Faith Formation leads the planning and execution of parish faith formation programs and serves as a key member of the parish leadership team. Responsibilities include:
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate faith formation programs for children, youth, adults, and families.
  • Coordinate sacramental preparation programs for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and adult sacraments through OCIA.
  • Establish goals, objectives, and strategies that support the parish mission and promote lifelong faith development.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, support, and evaluate catechists, volunteers, and ministry leaders.
  • Collaborate with clergy, parish staff, parents, and ministry leaders to strengthen parish engagement and faith development.
  • Plan and coordinate retreats, service opportunities, workshops, and special faith formation events.
  • Maintain accurate records, registration information, sacramental documentation, and program communications.
  • Manage program budgets, educational resources, and curriculum materials.
  • Ensure all programs comply with diocesan policies, Safe Environment requirements, and Catholic Church teachings.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages participation and spiritual growth.

Requirements
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Education, Pastoral Ministry, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in Theology, Religious Education, or a related field preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in faith formation, religious education, parish ministry, or a related pastoral leadership role.
  • Experience coordinating sacramental preparation programs and working with volunteers.
  • Knowledge of Catholic doctrine, catechetical methods, and parish ministry operations.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with a commitment to the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to recruit, train, and motivate volunteers and ministry leaders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with parishioners, families, clergy, and staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and parish management software.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Additional Requirements
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed for faith formation programs, sacramental celebrations, and parish events.
  • Successful completion of diocesan Safe Environment and background screening requirements.
