Job description

Infrastructure Architect (Operations Architect) — Automation Platform

Location : Sunnyvale, CA or Austin, TX (Onsite)

Duration : 12+ Months Contract

Job Description:

Leads the existing 3-person Infrastructure team supporting the automation platform.

Role Overview

We''''re looking for a hands-on Infrastructure Architect to own and evolve the infrastructure that the automation (RPA/GenAI) platform runs on. This is not a hands-off management role — the architect leads the three-person infrastructure team while remaining deeply technical, personally designing and building the provisioning, environments, and access plumbing that let our bots run reliably. The person is the go-to owner for what do the bots run on, what can they reach, and how do they authenticate, and sets the strategy for scaling from attended to unattended automation.

Key Responsibilities

•            Own the automation platform infrastructure end to end — compute, environments, tooling, and reliability — and lead the 3-person infrastructure team while staying personally hands-on.

•            Virtual machine provisioning — stand up, configure, and manage VMs and compute for bot runtimes and dev/test environments.

•            SimCloud provisioning — provision and manage SimCloud (unattended) environments for bot execution.

•            Unattended-bot strategy and tooling — define and build the strategic approach and tooling for running bots unattended at scale, and drive the migration of attended automations toward unattended.

•            Application availability for bots — ensure every application a bot depends on is installed, configured, licensed, and reachable within the bot''''s runtime environment.

•            Access and identity provisioning — own service/system-account creation, credentials, and entitlements for bots and the team across Apple''''s identity and access systems (AppleConnect, Access Manager / IDMS).

•            Standards and repeatability — establish repeatable, documented processes and tooling for provisioning, environment management, and troubleshooting.

•            Cross-team partnership — work with automation developers, security, and Apple infrastructure/IT to unblock the platform and resolve environment and runtime issues.

Must-Have Qualifications

•            Deep, hands-on knowledge of Apple''''s internal infrastructure and how to get things provisioned within it.

•            Proven, hands-on experience provisioning and managing virtual machines and virtualized/cloud compute.

•            Experience with identity and access / service-account provisioning in a large enterprise (AppleConnect, Access Manager / IDMS, or equivalent IAM).

•            Hands-on experience with RPA platforms (UiPath strongly preferred), including unattended bot orchestration and runtimes.

•            Both genuine hands-on engineering depth and the ability to lead and mentor a small team — a builder who can also manage, not a manager who delegates all execution.

•            Proven ability to work independently and drive ambiguous infrastructure problems to resolution with minimal direction.

•            Scripting/automation skills (e.g., Python, shell) for building provisioning and operational tooling.

•            Willing and able to work on-site at SVE (or Austin).

Preferred Qualifications

•            Prior Apple experience.

•            Direct experience with SimCloud and Apple virtualization/cloud provisioning.

•            macOS fleet/endpoint experience (bots run on Macs).

•            Track record of taking attended automations to unattended at scale.

•            Familiarity with supporting services in the automation stack (e.g., Box, LDAP / Apple Directory).
