Director, Certifying Examination Administration

Michigan-Based Hybrid - Remote Eligible | Full-Time | Exempt

ABEM is seeking a strategic and collaborative Director, Certifying Examination Administration to lead the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of our high-stakes Certifying Examination program.

In this role, you will lead exam administration, operational readiness, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and process improvement while ensuring a high-quality experience for candidates, volunteers, and staff. You will serve as the Administrative Lead for all Certifying Exam administrations and work closely with executive leadership, technology teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure successful exam delivery.

What You'll Do

  • Lead administration of ABEM's Certifying Examination program.
  • Drive exam readiness, operational planning, and risk mitigation.
  • Oversee logistics, volunteer coordination, candidate management, and staffing needs.
  • Partner with technology teams on system enhancements, testing, and platform reliability.
  • Manage budgets, vendor relationships, and resource planning.
  • Lead change management, process improvement, and post-exam reviews.
  • Develop dashboards, KPIs, and executive-level reporting.
  • Attend all Certifying Exam administrations (approximately 9 weeks of travel annually).

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, Education, Health Administration, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in program management, certification, credentialing, assessment operations, or a related field.
  • Experience leading complex, high-stakes programs with multiple stakeholders and timelines.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with change management, operational readiness, and process improvement preferred.
  • Experience working with technology platforms, testing, and system implementations preferred.
