This is a responsible non-supervisory position within the Agency's Department of Family Opportunities. Under minimal supervision, the incumbent will validate financial assistance allocations for eligible Hinds County applicants.
Performs accounting and review functions according to established procedures, guidelines, and policies and/or as directed by supervisor. Performs verification and validation of each allocation/accounting record according to federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines to ensure that documented evidence inserted into each accounting record adequately satisfies the requirements and specifications.
The incumbent must be detail-oriented, exercise a high degree of confidentiality and accuracy essential to the execution of duties to determine whether each allocation meets the required level of compliance at all stages of the process for checking the service or system established by a process or procedure.
Essential Functions
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the Agency.
Confidentiality reviews the personal data of the applicant, utility vendor account information, payment history, household data, and income for the sole purpose of providing confidential financial assistance to the applicant. Securely files and maintains clientele records and reports pertinent to the operation of the department.
Reviews and verifies residential bills for the following types of assistance: utility (electricity, gas, and water), housing (rental or mortgage), education, childcare/after-school care, appliance/installation, and/or other assistance to ensure that the account services of each client remain current and/or restored in a timely in accordance with applicable guidelines, procedures, and policies. The incumbent will approve or deny financial assistance applications in accordance with established procedures and systems.
Performs clerical and customer service functions as needed/directed by management. Candidate
must have excellent communication and computational skills, the ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment with adaptability, and the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.
Performs searches for allocations and accounting records of applicants for various grant programs. Audits and proofs of account reports for financial accuracy, including but not limited to reports, figures, postings, grants, accounts, names, addresses, social security numbers, and household members. Calculates income, processes daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports from various budgets and clientele accounts as needed for monitoring and auditing accounts.
Assists in the verification of income, current bill balance, accurate account, clients' identity, disconnections, terminations, and/or evictions. Responsible for making financial pledges, approvals of eligible applications, and denials of non-eligible applications as submitted by authorized staff in accordance with applicable guidelines and established procedures for eligible Hinds County applicants, utilizing the local utility portals, Virtual ROMA System, and/or other designated software.
Reconciles and reports any discrepancies found during the course of record review. Incumbent will report any out-of-compliance documents, missing documents, and all irregularities to the assigned supervisor.

Qualifications
Completion of two (2) years of college from an accredited college or university with courses in accounting and one (1) year of related experience;
OR
High school diploma or equivalent (GED), related education and experience may be substituted on an equal basis for education;
AND
Type at least 45 wpm and be able to operate a computer, software, and general office equipment.
