About this position

JSM Living is seeking an experienced Director of Accounting & Finance to join our growing team. We manage a diverse portfolio of residential apartments and commercial properties and were voted a 2026 Best of CU winner for Best Leasing Company. This role provides an opportunity to lead our accounting, finance, and family office functions while partnering with company leadership to support the financial health and continued success of the organization.

This is an in-office position based in our Champaign, IL office.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the Accounting, Finance, and Family Office functions.
  • Oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end and year-end close processes, and internal controls.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis activities.
  • Monitor cash management and banking activities across multiple entities.
  • Prepare and present financial statements, management reports, and performance metrics.
  • Coordinate audit, tax reporting, and compliance activities.
  • Maintain effective internal controls and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations.
  • Develop reporting tools and metrics that support informed business decisions.
  • Provide financial analysis, reporting, and recommendations to support company leadership and business decisions.
  • Lead relationships with banks, auditors, tax advisors, insurance providers, and other external partners.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, operational efficiency, and business systems.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 7-10 years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience.
  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and internal controls.
  • Experience leading accounting and finance functions and managing staff
  • Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills
  • Experience in real estate, property management, development, construction, asset management, or a related industry preferred.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 7-10 years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience.
  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and internal controls.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Starting salary - $90,000-$120,000 annually**

**The salary range listed for this position represents the range of compensation we reasonably expect to offer for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s relevant experience, skills, education, and internal equity.
