What is a direct to consumer job?

A Direct To Consumer (DTC) job involves working for a company that sells products or services directly to customers, bypassing traditional retail channels or intermediaries. Professionals in DTC roles focus on building brand relationships, managing online sales channels, optimizing customer experiences, and using data-driven strategies to attract and retain customers. These roles can span marketing, e-commerce, customer support, logistics, and more, all with the goal of delivering a seamless and personalized experience from brand to buyer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a direct to consumer manager?

To thrive as a Direct to Consumer (DTC) Manager, you need a solid background in e-commerce strategy, digital marketing, and analytics, often supported by a degree in marketing, business, or a related field. Familiarity with e-commerce platforms (such as Shopify or Magento), CRM systems, and digital advertising tools like Google Analytics and Facebook Ads Manager is essential. Strong communication, data-driven decision-making, and problem-solving abilities help you stand out in this role. These skills ensure successful customer acquisition, retention, and revenue growth in a rapidly evolving digital marketplace.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in direct to consumer roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Direct To Consumer roles often encounter challenges such as rapidly shifting consumer preferences, the need for robust digital marketing strategies, and maintaining seamless customer experiences across online platforms. Staying agile and leveraging data analytics to understand customer behavior are key to addressing these challenges. Additionally, close collaboration with marketing, operations, and customer service teams helps ensure consistent messaging and efficient fulfillment, which are crucial for DTC success.

As a senior member of the Product team, you'll help connect product strategy with broader business goals by building business cases, defining success metrics, and clearly communicating results and recommendations to executive stakeholders. You'll also work closely with Marketing to improve performance across paid, owned, and organic acquisition channels, while identifying opportunities to strengthen mobile app discovery and conversion. The ideal candidate combines strong product judgment with a highly analytical and collaborative approach and has a track record of driving measurable growth within subscription or direct-to-consumer products.

In this role, you will...

  • Define and own the growth product roadmap across acquisition, engagement, and retention.
  • Partner with Product Design and Engineering leadership to deliver high-impact customer experiences.
  • Identify opportunities through analytics, customer research, and experimentation.
  • Design, measure, and optimize A/B tests and growth initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing to improve conversion across paid, owned, and organic acquisition channels.
  • Build business cases, define success metrics, and communicate results to executive stakeholders.
  • Write SQL and work directly with data to answer product questions and uncover insights.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Product Management experience, with significant experience in subscription or direct-to-consumer products.
  • Proven success driving measurable growth in acquisition, engagement, or retention.
  • Strong analytical mindset with hands-on SQL proficiency.
  • Experience partnering with Design and Engineering teams to ship customer-facing products.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across cross-functional teams.
  • Nice to have: Experience with App Store Optimization (ASO), App Store analytics, and partnering on Mobile App Install (MAI) campaigns to improve acquisition efficiency and conversion.
