Job description

External Relations at the University of Virginia (UVA) is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the role of Direct Marketing Data Assistant. Position Summary
The Direct Marketing Data Assistant is responsible for helping with the coordination and execution of data sets for the University Annual Giving & Stewardship Direct Marketing team. The incumbent will work independently to pull donor data to generate audience lists for multi-channel appeals. This role is ideal for someone with practical SQL and Excel skills who is detail-oriented and can manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. The Direct Marketing Data Assistant will report to the Direct Marketing Strategist.
Responsibilities

  • Create accurate and complex data lists (approximately 350 per year) for multi-channel marketing efforts.
  • Build and maintain audience segmentation queries in Snowflake for direct mail, email, social media, and text campaigns.
  • Execute data requests on time to ensure that Direct Marketing appeals drop on schedule.
  • Assist in data validation for campaigns, including verifying donor records within Salesforce Ascend and the legacy system Ellucian Advance.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot data issues by analyzing query logic and applying problem-solving skills.
  • Document query logic and maintain clear workflows for repeatable processes.
  • Ensure that information security and privacy standards are met, and that data governance standards are upheld.
  • Participate in the Office of Engagement, University Annual Giving & Stewardship, Operations, and External Relations meetings as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with one year of experience.
  • Ability to work independently and meet overlapping deadlines.
  • Solid understanding of relational database concepts and ability to write SQL queries involving joins, CTEs, and conditional filtering.
  • Comfortable troubleshooting query results and explaining logic clearly.
  • Ability to format and organize large datasets in Excel while maintaining data integrity.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Proficient in computer applications, strong working knowledge of constituent databases (CRM) and software programs, especially SQL.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with SQL, Oracle Database, Snowflake, Excel, Salesforce CRM, Ellucian Advance.
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Salary Range
  • The anticipated hiring range is $57K - $64K year
Position Type & Work Location

  • This is a restricted position, which is dependent on funding and is contingent upon funding availability.
  • UVA External Relations offers a flexible and hybrid workplace. All team members must have access to and maintain a secure home office environment with high-speed internet service and work collaboratively with others using various technologies and tools. Depending on the type of position and work performed, or as deemed by manager, some positions may be required to work intermittently in a shared office space located in Charlottesville, Virginia (VA).
  • This position may work from anywhere in the United States, with the expectation of being in Charlottesville, VA a minimum of four times a year at UVA's expense.
