Job description

DEPARTMENT:  Nursing  

POSITION:         Companion Care Aide  

SUPERVISOR:   Charge Nurse and/or Supervisor 

HOURS:              Part-time & Full-time Openings. 7am -3pm & 3pm -11pm shifts available. 

Duties are focused on providing companionship which include: 

Converses with residents and providing them with dignity and respect at all times. 

Provides entertainment activities depending on resident’s preferences. 

Assists with personal correspondence; answering phones, assisting residents with facetime or phone calls to their loved ones. 

Provides diversional activities to residents who are restless and attempting to get up unassisted. Reports any concerns to nurse.  

Answers call bells in order to triage resident needs and reports them to nurse and certified nurse aide. 

Transports resident via wheelchair if applicable to dining room, bedroom, and/or to any activities. 

Supplies hygiene and care products to patients on an as-needed basis.    

Re-stocks patient rooms with towels, wash cloths, chux pads, gloves and other supplies, as needed. 

Performs laundry duties, as needed. Assures accurate delivery of resident clothing to their room, puts clothing away in drawers and closet as needed.  

Sweeps, mops and vacuums floors as needed. 

Cleans resident room and bathroom as needed; tidies up, empties trash, checks dates on any food in refrigerator and disposes if applicable, etc. 

Performs any other duties assigned by the Charge Nurse, and/or Supervisor. 

Reports any suspected mistreatment of residents immediately to supervisor.  

Uses safety measures at all times for residents and self.  

Demonstrates good communication skills and makes appropriate responses to residents including the cognitively-impaired residents.   

Performs duties according to the highest ethical and moral standards and in adherence with the facility’s corporate compliance plan and all applicable governing laws.  Adheres to the facility’s confidentiality statement in accessing and safeguarding protected health information (PHI) of residents and employees, as necessary to perform job duties.  

High school diploma or equivalent. 

Possesses verbal, writing and reading skills necessary to perform duties associated with the position.  

Understands that health care is an environment which is active twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.  

Possesses a genuine interest in residents and co-workers as demonstrated by arriving on time at start of shift and working when scheduled, including weekends and holidays.
