Job description

Live-In Caregiver / Companion

A warm, intellectually curious, and deeply caring family is seeking a compassionate Live-In Caregiver / Companion to support a 70-year-old mother with advanced care needs. The position is currently based in Pittsburgh, PA, with plans to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area/Santa Cruz area within approximately six months. The family (Mother, Father, grown son) is ideally seeking someone interested in relocating with them long term.

This role is centered around providing thoughtful, attentive, and emotionally engaging support to the mother who has Lewy Body Disease while also helping restore balance and independence to the father, who has been heavily involved in her care over the last several years. The family is looking for someone who is genuinely compassionate, proactive, grounded, communicative, and motivated by caregiving as a meaningful profession rather than simply a job.

The mother requires full physical assistance throughout the day, including mobility support, toileting, bathing, dressing, feeding assistance, medication support, and companionship. Although she speaks very little now, the family is looking for someone who will actively engage with her through conversation, reading aloud, music, singing, storytelling, light movement, and emotional presence. The ideal candidate is warm, emotionally intuitive, physically capable, calm, and able to create a comforting daily rhythm.

The father is highly involved, intellectually driven, and deeply dedicated to his wife's care. The ideal caregiver will work collaboratively and respectfully alongside him while also helping create moments of relief, independence, and peace within the household. The family values professionalism, kindness, generosity of spirit, flexibility, communication, and emotional intelligence.

The household follows a largely organic lifestyle and values holistic wellness, Eastern medicine philosophies, spirituality, creativity, nature, and meaningful connection. This is a warm family environment where the right caregiver can truly become an invaluable source of support and stability.

During the Pittsburgh portion of the role, the caregiver will likely have a separate apartment provided. In California, the plan is to provide a private bedroom and bathroom within the home. The current planned structure is to have two homes on a property where the caregiver and mother will live and then another home for the father.

Start Date: July 1st, but the family is willing to wait for the right candidate. Current Location: Pittsburgh, PA. Future Relocation: San Francisco Bay Area / Santa Cruz area, CA. Schedule: 5 consecutive days a week 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM.
