The Dining Room Supervisor is a working leader in day to day operations directly supervising and assisting the dining services team, maintains a resident focus business decorum at all times, manages dining flow and balances the serving responsibilities among dining staff. The unique responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to the essential functions listed as follows:

Supervision and Leadership

  • Provides supervision to food service dining team and supports/assists the Dining Room Manager and Dining Room Director (DSD).
  • Schedules and assigns tasks to the food service dining team and utilizes the On-Shift for scheduling.
  • Assists with staffing and scheduling according to operational, budgetary guidelines and federal, state/provincial, local laws.
  • Assists in daily review of timekeeping practices and payroll reports to ensure all hours worked are recorded and appropriately paid.
  • Assigns table responsibilities to food service dining team.

Dining Room Operations

  • Maintains visibility during meal periods supporting customer engagement activities, interacts with residents during meal periods.
  • Greets and seats residents and guests.
  • Assists and ensures residents and guests requests are met.
  • Supports dining team in table service adequacy and timing, etiquette and thoroughness; provides hospitality food service training and coaching as appropriate use 10 steps of service. And use TSD and Meal Suite system where applicable.
  • Addresses, responds and resolves resident and guest concerns.
  • Supports and assists in creating a pleasant dining experience for residents and guests.
  • Conducts pre-meal briefing to food service dining team.
  • Articulates the Daily Menu and Always Available Menu to residents, guests and team members.
  • Assists residents and guests with menu selections and responds to pertinent questions about menu items.

Resident Services

  • Reviews, reads, notates and initializes the Daily Log and Department Log to document and learn about pertinent information and any resident's dietary, physical and behavioral changes.
  • Reviews ISP (Individualized Service Plans), Resident Diet Book TSD / Residents Management, confidential Diet Board / Indicator, Data Card or Chart Remove no longer Diet Board.
  • Participates in regular Resident Counsel Meetings and other identified food committee meetings.
  • Maintains and protects the confidentiality of resident information at all times.

General Dining Service Duties

  • Maintains assigned dining room with adequate supplies and inventory for the table top service and service requests.
  • Ensures standards of cleanliness, hygiene, proper attire and health standards are maintained at all times by food service dining team.
  • Monitors to ensure all assigned side work, cleaning and stocking is completed.
  • Monitors to ensure floor charts and dining room is set up to Sunrise quality service standards.
  • Processes resident/guest meal charges.

Food Safety and Sanitation

  • Ensures safe food handling is practiced at all times to prevent an outbreak of food borne illness.
  • Supervises and completes daily, weekly and monthly cleaning assignments.
  • Maintains all work areas in a healthful and safe condition.
  • Supervises and supports dining room and surrounding areas for proper directional flow, organization and supplies placement.

Risk Management and General Safety

  • Partners with community team to ensure community is in compliance with national/provincial regulations pertaining to occupational health and safety requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and policies; adherence to safety rules and regulations.
  • Practices safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) and Lockout Tagout procedures.

Training, and Contributing to Team Success

  • Participates actively as a member of a team and committed to working toward team goals.
  • Demonstrates in daily interactions with others, our Team Member Credo.
  • Commits to serving our residents and guests through our Principles of Service.
  • Contributes in the overall engagement programs and processes (customer and team member engagement) including participating in the team member engagement survey and engagement improvement planning workshops.
  • Attends regular meetings; Town Hall, Department Team Meetings, Cross Over, and others as directed by the Supervisor / Department Coordinator DSD.
  • Maintains compliance in assigned required training and all training required by state/province or other regulating authorities as applicable to this role to ensure that Sunrise standards are always met.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Two (2) years' experience in fine Upscale dining or high volume food service preferably in assisted living/long term care, full service and/or hospitality industries.
  • Supervisory/management experience preferred which may include supervising and responsibility of shift/daily operations.
  • Maintains current Food Services Sanitation certificate.
  • High School diploma / GED accepted.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication.
  • Competent in organizational, time management skills.
  • Demonstrates good judgment, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Demonstration of proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel) and Sunrise applications with the ability to learn new applications.
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings and flexible hours, available for our customers at peak service delivery days and times.
