Senior Manager, Senior Counsel - Commercial & Product

The Capital One Legal Department is seeking an experienced and collaborative corporate/commercial attorney to join our growing Global Payment Network Legal team. In this role, you will serve as a key strategic partner and important voice within the business. This role involves providing essential legal advice and support on a variety of commercial initiatives and transactions for Diners Club International, working closely with business and legal partners across the organization. You will find that the Legal Department is not a "check the box" function but instead, an important voice and strategic partner in all aspects of the business.

About the Role:

The attorney will be part of the Commercial and Product legal team and provide support to Diners Club International with a focus on Latin America, Caribbean, and Canada. The ideal candidate should have expertise in commercial contracting. This position will have responsibility for:

  • Providing expert counsel and strategic guidance across a critical spectrum of areas impacting commercial relationships, including commercial contracting and risk identification and mitigation

  • Negotiating, drafting, and guiding implementation of commercial agreements, working in close collaboration with legal and business colleagues and other subject matter experts

  • Supporting credit, fintech and payment innovation related new product initiatives and innovation across Diners Club International

  • Supporting the development and maintenance of competitive rule sets for the Diners Club International

  • Identifying and supporting process improvements to promote agility in legal and related business operations, including contract template improvements

  • Partnering collaboratively with other internal counsel and business teams across the enterprise

  • Partnering with Risk and Compliance teams to ensure comprehensive support

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Ability to understand complex topics quickly with depth that allows for concise and simple advice

  • Problem solving mentality rather than thinking only like a legal technician

  • Excellent judgment with the ability to predict long-term consequences

  • Growth mindset with an openness to new ideas, diverse perspectives, and unconventional solutions

Basic Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school

  • Active member in good standing of at least one state bar

  • At least 6 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $200,700 - $229,100 for Sr. Manager, Sr. Counsel


New York, NY: $219,000 - $249,900 for Sr. Manager, Sr. Counsel


Richmond, VA: $182,500 - $208,300 for Sr. Manager, Sr. Counsel

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
