US Farathane is seeking to hire a Dimensional Analyst to work out of our Auburns Hills location

Summary:

The Dimensional Analyst serves as the engineering team's core technical resource for variation management and geometric control. This role is strictly focused on data interpretation and the establishment of robust Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) fundamentals during the design phase. The successful candidate will eliminate build risks by translating complex metrology data into actionable design solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to assist in generating metrology reports: Assist with the dimensional lab in creating dimensional reports using various dimensional reporting software(s).
  • Establish GD&T Fundamentals: Define, review, and approve geometric dimensioning and tolerancing schemes on automotive engineering drawings to ensure strict compliance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Analyze and assist with reporting Metrology Data: Create metrology reports, review, interpret, and synthesize measurement data from 3D scanners and CMMs to identify part-to-CAD deviations.
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Partner with Product Design Engineers early in the development cycle to establish critical datums, mating features, and optimized tolerance budgets.
  • Perform Tolerance Stack-Up Analyses: Conduct 1D and 2D tolerance stack-up simulations to predict vehicle assembly variations, flushness risks, and gap conditions.
  • Translate Data into Action: Convert complex point-cloud data and color deviation maps into clear engineering recommendations for root-cause problem-solving.
  • Train and Mentor Teams: Act as the internal subject matter expert (SME) to educate design engineers, manufacturing teams, and suppliers on proper GD&T interpretation and feasibility.
  • Monitor Quality Metrics: Review statistical process control (SPC) data from pre-production builds to validate process capability and print feasibility.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a robust related technical discipline through experience.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in automotive product engineering, dimensional control, or design verification.
  • GD&T Expertise: Complete understanding of ASME Y14.5 standards. (certification is highly preferred).
  • Analytical Skills: Strong background in statistical methods, data visualization, and tolerance stack-up methodologies.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience utilizing CAD/PLM platforms to view and analyze models (NX, CATIA, etc).
  • Problem Solving: Proficient in automotive root-cause methodologies (e.g., 8D, Fishbone, 5-Why).
