Job description

Sports Reporter
The Citizen is looking for a sports reporter to work with its award-winning staff in Auburn.
We cover the Cayuga County area of Central New York, which along with the city of Auburn includes several rural areas and lakeside villages.
The newspaper prints three times a week, but our main priority is producing content for our website, auburnpub.com.
Our sports reporter primarily covers high school sports at nine area districts. We also cover some college sports, including summer baseball team the Auburn Doubledays, as well as the annual Great Race relay event on Owasco Lake.
Our ideal candidate will be able to not only write compellingly about games and athletes, but also take photos and video. (Camera provided.)
The position has flexibility: Hours are dependent on when games are played, so you would mostly work afternoons and evenings. You would work Saturdays on a regular basis as well.
You would have the option of working in our office, but our staff is mostly remote, so could work remotely as well.
Completion of a bachelor's or master's program in journalism and/or some experience working at a news publication is preferred.
Along with your resume, please include a cover letter and at least three sports writing samples, ideally ones that have been published.
Why Join Us?
Lee Enterprises offers competitive wages in a dynamic, interesting work environment with career growth opportunities. We offer an extensive benefit program that can be personalized to your needs. Our benefit program includes medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, company provided life insurance and supplemental life insurance. In addition, we offer a 401K retirement plan with company match. We also offer generous paid time off to allow the flexibility to balance personal life and work. This includes paid parental leave for new parents.
Lee Enterprises is a leading provider of local news and information and a major subscription and advertising platform, with daily and weekly newspapers and rapidly expanding digital products serving 114 markets across 25 states. Our core commitment is to provide valuable, intensely local news and information to the communities we serve.
