Position Overview
Choice Digital is seeking a Senior Software Engineer who can take responsibility for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend software systems. You'll be joining a growing team of passionate Software Engineers who foster a culture of shared ownership, teamwork, and engineering excellence.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will help build the infrastructure that powers large-scale consumer disbursements. This includes systems responsible for:
  • Payment orchestration across multiple rails (ACH, prepaid cards, digital wallets, and checks)
  • Transaction lifecycle management, settlement, and reconciliation
  • Fraud detection and risk decisioning
  • Ledgering and financial record systems
  • High-reliability APIs used by enterprise clients to initiate and track payments

Our platform processes large volumes of financial transactions and requires systems that are secure, observable, and highly resilient.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Architecture & Execution
  • Design, build, and own various backends components of the Choice Digital platform
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to design and implement solutions using micro-service and service-oriented architectures
  • Enhance existing DevOps for best practices for continuous integration, testing, deployment, and scaling
  • Ensure implementation meets the highest quality and security standards

Strategic Planning & Governance
  • Work directly with Product Management and Engineering Management to plan and prioritize work
  • Own backend components, and establish and enforce standards for security and quality across the platform

Qualifications and Experience
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent field, OR 5+ years of experience in software design and development
  • Basic knowledge of Google Cloud Platform or AWS and containerization/infrastructure-as-code tools (Docker, Terraform)
  • Thorough understanding of Object-Oriented Design and Development
  • Experience with software testing methodologies and strategies
  • Mastery of Python and an ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Very comfortable with SQL and noSQL databases, such as Postgres and Redis
  • Understanding of Git/Source Control best practices
  • Ability to adjust priorities to delivery schedules
  • Must have a passion for building GREAT software

Preferred:
  • Experience in payments, fintech, banking, or financial infrastructure
  • familiarity with payment rails such as: ACH, card networks (Visa/Mastercard), mobile wallets, experience integrating with third-party financial services or payment processors
  • Experience working with systems that handle sensitive financial or personal data and require strong security practices
  • Experience designing and implementing ledgering or financial record systems

In compliance with Colorado state law, pay for this position is anticipated to be between $140,000 and $160,000. Actual offers will be based on the applicant's skills, experience, and education.
