Job description

Job Title:  Director of Operations - Jacksonville Radio

Position Overview

Cox Media Group Jacksonville is seeking a Director of Operations, Branding & Programming to support its top-performing stations: 95.1 WAPE, POWER 106.1, HOT 106.5, ESPN 690, EASY 102.9, 96.9 THE EAGLE, 104.5 WOKV, and X99.5. Depending on the candidate’s format experience, this role may include direct oversight of music, on-air talent, and programming for a couple of designated key cluster stations.

The ideal candidate is well organized, creative, self-motivated and an effective multi-tasker who has high energy and passion for radio, digital media, community involvement, entertainment and music.  The individual must have an intimate understanding of the stations’ 25-54 life group and be able to focus the programming and design to that audience’s evolving desires and habits. This role requires a leader with a winning spirit to grow and expand the stations to match the needs of a diverse and immense population.

The Director of Operations, Branding & Programming will be responsible for leading and/or collaborating with other departments on all aspects of the radio station including on-air content, events, promotions, contesting, and digital presence.  Experience with talent coaching, event management, image copy writing, a deep knowledge and understanding of branding/imaging and understanding effective digital engagement are required.

Applicants should have at least five (5) years of programming experience as a Program Director, and preferably as Operations Manager in a top 50 market, understand PPM audience measurement, FCC rules and regulations, and will have the proven ability to work together and very closely with the sales department to develop new business and programming opportunities that generate revenue.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain oversight of stations’ Programming, Promotions and Production department budgets.
  • Lead a highly talented air staff; ability to coach air talent, including the ability to communicate the goals, structure, and execution of the station formats.
  • Oversee Program Director responsibilities for designated key cluster stations, including coaching, recruiting, promotions, imaging, weekly aircheck sessions, streaming, and quarterly monitoring.
  • Work with the Jacksonville VP/Market Manager and CMG Strategic Team to create and execute the strategic action plan for the stations.
  • Create and write compelling imaging that reflects the stations’ strategic direction.
  • Hire and retain top-level full-time and part-time air talent.
  • Partner with the CMG Jacksonville Digital Content Lead on oversight of station’s digital platforms, such as website content, social media, station app and e-mail databases, and monitoring the stations’ streams.
  • Partner with the Sales Department to develop engaging, client-focused promotions that drive revenue.
  • Collaborate with CMG Jacksonville’s Promotions & Activations Manager on execution of contests, sweepstakes and creating effective high-profile promotional / marketing campaigns for the stations.
  • Planning and oversight of station research.
  • Responsible for station operations 24/7/365.
  • Oversee and work closely with other CMG Jacksonville Program Directors to achieve market ratings share goals.
  • Monitor programming activities in conformance with FCC rules and regulations, Cox Media Group policy and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of programming management experience in a top 50 market
  • Track record of success in PPM rated markets. Proven ability to lead a team of programmers and staff.  Proficiency in interpreting ratings data.
  • Track record of PPM success with a content driven morning show.
  • Deep knowledge, creativity and proven history of creating scalable promotions / events that generate revenue.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible, creative, and innovative in using technology to deepen listener relationships.
  • Excels in problem-solving, prioritizing and multitasking.
  • Computer skills for audio delivery and automations systems, such as WideOrbit, Adobe Audition etc.
  • Extensive digital experience with station streaming, web sites, social media, and mobile.
  • On-air experience, and experience operating all on-air and production equipment.
  • Available as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Classic Hits, AC, Hot AC, CHR, and Urban formats are preferred.
  • News/Talk experience a plus.
