Job description

Digital Print Manager

Position Summary

The Digital Press Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of digital print production, with a strong emphasis on HP digital press technology. This individual will oversee pressroom operations, production scheduling, quality, productivity, maintenance coordination, and team performance. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with deep HP Indigo or HP PageWide experience and a strong understanding of digital printing workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage daily operations of the digital press department, ensuring production goals, quality standards, and delivery commitments are met.
  • Operate and troubleshoot HP digital presses as needed, including HP Indigo and/or HP PageWide platforms.
  • Develop and manage production schedules to maximize press utilization, throughput, and on-time delivery.
  • Lead, train, coach, and develop digital press operators and production staff.
  • Monitor print quality, color consistency, registration, and overall output to ensure customer specifications are met.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, print quality, and workflow issues while coordinating with maintenance and external service technicians when necessary.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing waste, improving uptime, increasing productivity, and optimizing workflow.
  • Partner with Prepress, Planning, Customer Service, and Finishing departments to ensure smooth production flow.
  • Monitor consumables, inks, substrates, and other production materials to minimize downtime and control costs.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance procedures are completed and maintain a strong focus on equipment reliability.
  • Track key performance metrics, including uptime, productivity, waste, quality, and on-time delivery.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment while enforcing company safety policies.
  • Participate in capital equipment planning, technology upgrades, and implementation of new digital printing capabilities.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in digital printing, with significant hands-on experience operating or managing HP digital press equipment.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a digital press, printing, or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of HP Indigo and/or HP PageWide technology preferred.
  • Experience with digital print workflows, color management, RIP/workflow systems, and variable data printing.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving press performance, print quality, substrates, and production workflow.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven production environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills.
  • Knowledge of Lean, continuous improvement, or manufacturing productivity principles is a plus.
  • Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams and drive accountability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial printing, direct mail, packaging, labels, publishing, or high-volume transactional printing.
  • Experience implementing automated digital workflows or workflow automation.
  • Familiarity with HP PrintOS and other digital production management tools.
  • Experience with color management, including G7 or other industry color standards.
  • Technical or manufacturing-related degree is a plus but not required.
