About the Department of Communication

Students in Drexel University's Department of Communication gain broad theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience as they work toward successful careers in public relations, journalism, media, and countless areas in which communication skills are essential. We offer three distinct concentrations: Public Relations, Journalism and Media and communication, preparing our students to be leaders in communication in a digitalized society. Students gain up to 18 months of real-word career experience in the co-op program. At the graduate level, the Department offers a Master of Science in Strategic and Digital Communication. The department also offers a Master of Science in Communication, Culture and Media as well as a Doctorate in Communication Culture and Media.

Job Summary

The Department is looking for an adjunct with professional expertise in the field Digital Public Relations. In particular, we will expect the adjunct faculty member to teach both at the undergraduate and graduate level PR Campaign Planning, Strategic Social Media Communication and Digital Publishing.

The adjunct faculty member will bring all their academic and professional expertise in the subject matter to the classroom and will employ a variety of strategies to foster student learning and discussions, as well as encourage active and experiential learning in all students, maintain proper course-related records, and evaluate student work and provide students with feedback as to the progress toward meeting the objectives of the course. Each adjunct faculty member is responsible for effectively teaching students in the assigned classroom or online. Responsibilities may include teaching days or evenings, with the potential for online only, in-person only, or a combination of both.

Essential Functions

  • Teach required number of credit hours per term based on the contract.
  • Provide a full syllabus and determine relevant teaching resources ahead of the start of the course.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to the education of young adults, teaching methodology, curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Be up to date with the latest developments in pedagogy, including the critical use of advanced digital and AI-based learning tools.
  • Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes related to communication knowledge and practice.
  • Schedule 2 office hours per week for student availability.
  • Maintain communication with the Assistant Department Head regarding any course or student issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Master's Degree in a Communication or related field
  • Demonstrable academic and/or professional experience commensurate with course content and requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience in teaching, also remote/online if so required, and in using electronic learning environment, preferable Canvas
