WKBN 27 First News in Youngstown, Ohio is looking for a full-time Digital Sports Host / Multimedia Journalist to join the area's most experienced sports team and the market's leading digital operation.

If you're looking to brush up on your play-by-play skills, or highlight catch phrases... this probably isn't the position for you.

With more than 50 years of combined experience, WKBN 27 Sports remains focused on bringing our audience compelling stories from a passionatesportstown.

Our 'digital first' approach emphasizes engaging video content and in-depth story-telling with our online and television platforms.

The ideal candidate will have an extensive sports vocabulary with a track record of studio hosting, working efficiently, multi-tasking and trouble-shooting in order to successfully meet challenging deadlines. You will also excel at enterprising story ideas, and bring high professional ethics and personal integrity to theposition.

What You'll Do

  • Produce, host, and help promote a daily local sports program on our digital platforms.
  • Deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Develop relationships and generate stories that appeal throughout the local sports community.
  • Learn and execute our 'digital first' philosophy, where sports content is prioritized online.
  • Create content that prioritizes storytelling over highlights and scores.
  • Gather and verify information through interviews, observation, and research.
  • Write and edit stories that meet station style and format standards.
  • Shoot and edit videos to illustrate stories for all platforms including television and digital.
  • Appear in television news segments, anchor weekend sports coverage, and report live from the field.
  • Produce, write, and anchor sports segments for late local newscasts.
  • Use social media to give updates, engage audiences, and extend the reach of your content.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong on-camera presence, solid delivery, and clear enunciation.
  • Excellent reporting, interviewing, and storytelling skills.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the sports landscape.
  • Understanding the importance and use of social media.
  • Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of newsroom computer systems and non-linear editing software.
  • Experience shooting and editing video.
  • Writing for broadcast and AP Style.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and committed to high journalistic standards.

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Prior sports reporting, hosting, producing, or multimedia journalism experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced newsroom environment with daily deadlines.
  • Weekend and holiday work required.
  • Some travel required.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
