Job Summary/Basic Function
Student Investigator with the Vigo County/Indiana State University High Tech Crime Unit.
Specific Responsibilities
The Student Investigator will work directly with law enforcement officers, detectives, and director involved with the Vigo County HTCU. This work will include but is not limited to, assisting on case investigation, conducting digital forensic examinations, forensically imaging digital evidence, evidence logging & collection, preparation of legal process to legally conduct searches & seizures of materials, and testifying in court as needed. In addition to on-the-job training, the Student Investigator may also be exposed to specialized training and courses related to cyber forensics and undercover technology investigations.

Up to 15 hours per week, exact schedule is flexible.

Cybercriminology and Security Studies major with Cybercrime concentration

Job Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Sworn law enforcement officer.
• Assists on criminal case investigations.
• Primary investigator on criminal case investigations.
• Works independently on criminal case investigations.
• Meets extensively with state and federal law enforcement officers and prosecutors to present case findings.
• Conducts forensic digital analysis on seized evidence.
• Forensically images digital evidence.
• Collects and logs evidence.
• Conducts or assists with search and seizure at crime scenes.
• Prepares search warrants and meet with state and federal judges.
• Applies case facts to appropriate state and federal laws and makes charging recommendations.
• Conducts e-discovery for criminal prosecutions.
• Testifies in criminal trials and depositions as needed.
• Conducts research on technology and digital analysis topics.
• Extensive writing of warrants, reports, and other papers.
• Stays updated on changing technology and procedures.
• Obtains computer industry technology certifications.
