The Role

The Digital Engineering Group promotes a holistic approach to design and construction model-based services and technologies.  The group defines the company strategy around the use of BIMs, data integration across models and departments, and cultural change across project teams to realize significant risk reduction on construction cost and schedule. Leveraging the design, engineering, and construction knowledge of Suffolk and Suffolk Design, the Digital Engineering Team is charged with  creating innovative solutions in tech and process to ensure Suffolk is the best contractor in every region it operates.

Responsibilities
  • Regional Leadership 

    • Lead the Digital Engineering practice across the West Region, ensuring regional priorities align with Suffolk's national Digital Engineering strategy.  

    • Develop regional Digital Engineering plans that support business growth, improve project outcomes, and strengthen partnerships with Regional Operations leadership.  

    • Serve as the primary Digital Engineering advisor to regional leadership, helping shape operational strategy, investment priorities, and adoption of Digital Engineering across the regional business.  

    • Balance the needs of the region with enterprise priorities, advocating for regional opportunities while supporting national consistency and standardization.  

    • Represent the Digital Engineering practice across the region by building trusted relationships with leadership, clients, and strategic partners.  

    Customer & Project Success 

    • Build trusted relationships with Operations, Preconstruction, Project Management, Superintendents, and project teams across the region.  

    • Partner with Preconstruction teams early in the project lifecycle to develop Digital Engineering strategies that improve constructability, reduce risk, strengthen project planning, and position Suffolk to win and successfully deliver complex projects.  

    • Develop Digital Engineering strategies that create measurable value throughout planning, design, procurement, construction, and project turnover.  

    • Partner on pursuits, strategic projects, and executive initiatives to develop Digital Engineering solutions that differentiate Suffolk, reduce project risk, and establish successful delivery plans before construction begins.  

    • Personally engage on complex projects, critical pursuits, customer challenges, or executive initiatives when additional leadership or technical expertise is required.  

    Team Leadership 

    • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing regional Digital Engineering team.  

    • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer service, innovation, and continuous improvement.  

    • Mentor Digital Engineers in both technical excellence and customer engagement.  

    • Own regional workforce planning by partnering with Regional Operations leadership and National Digital Engineering leadership to forecast demand, develop staffing plans, and align resources with regional business priorities, budgets, and projected growth.  

    • Support recruiting, onboarding, career development, succession planning, and employee engagement across the region.  

    • Lead by example through active participation in project delivery, customer engagement, and problem solving.  

    Delivery Leadership 

    • Ensure consistent delivery of Digital Engineering and Digital Delivery services across the regional portfolio.  

    • Partner closely with Digital Delivery Operations to execute enterprise delivery standards, workflows, operating procedures, and quality expectations.  

    • Maintain strong relationships with Suffolk's strategic delivery partners, ensuring high-quality service, accountability, and customer satisfaction.  

    • Evaluate regional delivery performance and identify opportunities to improve quality, scalability, operational efficiency, and customer experience.  

    • Support the continued evolution of Suffolk's Digital Delivery operating model by providing regional feedback and helping pilot new delivery approaches.  

    Operational Excellence & Innovation 

    • Drive adoption of enterprise Digital Engineering standards, SOPs, and best practices.  

    • Monitor regional performance using KPIs, customer feedback, financial metrics, and operational dashboards.  

    • Identify opportunities to improve workflows through automation, AI, process improvements, and emerging technologies.  

    • Capture lessons learned and share best practices across the national Digital Engineering organization.  

    • Support annual business planning, forecasting, budgeting, staffing, and regional resource planning.  

    • Continuously identify opportunities to expand the value Digital Engineering brings to projects, customers, and the regional business.  

Qualifications
  • Qualifications 

    • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.  

    • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience leading Digital Engineering, BIM, VDC, or construction technology initiatives on increasingly complex construction projects and programs.  

    • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams while delivering Digital Engineering services across multiple concurrent projects.  

    • Experience supporting geographically distributed teams, multi-office operations, or multi-state construction portfolios preferred.  

    • Strong understanding of constructability, coordination, construction planning, project delivery, and digital project execution.  

    • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with Regional Operations leadership, clients, design partners, and project teams.  

    • Experience balancing technical leadership with business priorities, customer expectations, operational constraints, and regional budgets.  

    • Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and leadership skills.  

    • Working knowledge of Revit, Navisworks, Revizto, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and related Digital Engineering platforms.  

    • Ability to travel approximately 20-30% to support regional offices, project teams, pursuits, leadership meetings, and customer engagements throughout the West Region.
