Job description

My UP News (WBUP/WJMN) is looking for a dynamic storyteller to lead our digital efforts in an exciting position designed to meet the needs of today's audiences. The Digital Producer is someone who understands both the on-air and digital spaces, and who can chart a new course in the streaming world. This person will thrive on deadlines, understand the importance of breaking news, curate and create new digital content, and build a relationship with our digital audience.

What you'll do:

As a Digital Producer, you'll help lead our news gathering and distributing efforts that includes:

  • Rewriting releases from law enforcement, government agencies, non-profit and other organizations.
  • Finding additional information on stories to help provide more context and perspective.
  • Working with the rest of the news department to review and help improve their locally produced content.
  • Create content for our web, social, and app platforms to enhance the audience experience.
  • Create new workflows embrace new changing digital strategies and ideas.
  • Assist in training other members of the team in best practices and strategies.
  • Experiment with new technologies and tools to refine workflows and processes.

You will contribute content to our digital and on-air platforms, including cross-promoting streaming content, and we will count on you to be a problem-solver when it comes to technical issues, production, and programming. Your flair for analytics and audience tools will help us better listen to and understand our audience.

What you'll bring:

The Digital Producer will have experience in journalism, combined with a strong understanding of the digital space. We are looking for experienced writing for print using AP style, a solid command of journalism ethics and the tenets of professional journalism, and experience producing video and audio for the web using desktop video software. A BA/BS in journalism or related field with online publishing or communications experience preferred.
