Job description

About Us

Fivetran and dbt Labs are bringing together two industry-leading companies with a shared mission: helping organizations unlock the full value of their data.
Together, we're delivering the data infrastructure layer that helps organizations move, transform, and trust their data - from the moment data moves, through every transformation, to the context teams and AI systems rely on.
Fivetran helps organizations automate data movement across the systems, clouds, engines, and tools they rely on. dbt Labs pioneered analytics engineering, helping teams transform data into reliable, governed insights. Together, we support thousands of organizations as they build a trusted foundation for analytics, AI, and better business decisions.
As we bring our teams and technology together, we're building on the strengths of both companies while continuing to deliver the products and experiences our customers know and trust. It's an exciting time to join us: we're creating a company with the scale, talent, and technology to help more organizations put their data to work with greater speed, confidence, and impact.
During this transition period, you may see references to both Fivetran and dbt Labs throughout our recruiting process as we integrate our teams, systems, and career sites.

About the Role

We're looking for a new team member to join our dbt community team-a group of passionate community builders dedicated to empowering data practitioners worldwide. In this role, you'll lead our digital engagement efforts, with a primary focus on managing and growing the dbt Slack community. You'll cultivate a welcoming, high-signal space for data practitioners to connect, learn, and collaborate-partnering with internal teams and community leaders to strengthen member experience, drive participation, and surface community insights. This is a unique opportunity to shape how data practitioners engage with dbt and with each other every day across the globe.

What You'll Do

  • Own day-to-day operations of the dbt Slack community, ensuring a welcoming, high-signal experience for members worldwide
  • Partner with community leaders and internal stakeholders to evolve channel strategy, community guidelines, and engagement programming
  • Develop and maintain scalable moderation and support workflows (triage, escalation paths, response playbooks) including Code of Conduct enforcement
  • Coach and support moderators and community champions; recruit and onboard new moderators as the community grows
  • Create content systems that keep members informed and activated (announcements, highlights, prompts, and community storytelling)
  • Surface community insights and member feedback to Product, Marketing, and Support; close the loop with the community on outcomes
  • Monitor and report on key engagement and health metrics (growth, activation, retention, response times, sentiment) and run experiments to improve them
  • Manage the community tool stack for digital engagement (Slack workflows, analytics, knowledge base, integrations, web portal) and document best practices
  • Plan for and manage incident response in collaboration with Legal/People/Security as needed (harassment, safety, sensitive topics)
  • Support cross-channel digital engagement efforts beyond Slack (community forums, social, events) to create a cohesive member journey

Skills We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in digital community management, online engagement, or community program management in a global or distributed environment
  • Demonstrated experience owning day-to-day operations for a large online community (e.g., Slack/Discord/forum), including moderation, member support, and community health
  • Strong understanding of online community dynamics and how to cultivate trust, belonging, and shared purpose at scale
  • Experience building and improving moderation and support workflows (triage, escalation paths, response playbooks), including Code of Conduct enforcement
  • Excellent written communication and facilitation skills-able to respond clearly and empathetically, de-escalate issues, and encourage productive conversation
  • Experience using community tooling and analytics (e.g., Slack workflows, Common Room, and/or similar) to track engagement, identify trends, and drive improvement
  • Data-informed decision making, including defining KPIs for engagement and health, measuring impact, and reporting outcomes to stakeholders
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, partnering effectively with Product, Marketing, Support, and Developer Experience to close the loop with the community
  • Cultural fluency and sensitivity to differences in communication styles across regions and timezones
  • High emotional intelligence and comfort navigating complex situations (conflict, ambiguity, sensitive topics)
  • Comfort prioritizing work across multiple streams in a fast-paced environment, balancing structure with flexibility

Bonus Skills

  • Built and scaled a high-engagement Slack/Discord community with measurable impact (activation/retention, response time, sentiment), using experiments and programming
  • Demonstrated crisis/incident leadership in online spaces (CoC enforcement, safety/escalation), with sound judgment in high-stakes situations
  • Community-as-a-product operator: turns member insights into roadmap/marketing outcomes and consistently closes the loop with the community
  • Builder mindset with tooling: designs scalable workflows and automation (intake/triage/routing), plus analytics and knowledge systems to reduce manual load
