Job description

Who are we hiring?

Reality Capture Lead is responsible for the capturing and processing of photogrammetry, gaussian splats, lidar scans, prop scanner(s), and drone photogrammetry aerial imaging for multiple downstream uses. The Reality Capture Lead will work in studio and travel to capture locations. The role requires ability to give clear concise direction to other photogrammetry technicians on shoots and clearly communicate with stake holders on location managing expectations. Reality Capture Lead will also perform in field QC of data before returning from location.

Sphere Studios is a hybrid new format that requires a careful integration of cinematography engineering, technology, and standard production practices as well a healthy perspective on the future of entertainment. This role will mean creating new tools and integrate existing ones to capture and deliver on the unique value that Sphere promises. 

What will you do?

  • Support pre production visualization, production shoots, digital twin efforts, scan library and additional scanning requirements throughout the studio
  • Rapid gaussian splat capture and processing of locations on scouts.
  • Photogrammetry capture of environments, vehicles, and props large and small
  • LiDAR and prop scanner capture of locations and various assets
  • Operate and support drones for aerial lidar and photogrammetry capture
  • Operate other scanners such as laser line, structured light and photometric stereo based on the need
  • Work closely with the Photogrammetry Processing Lead to ensure data integrity and fidelity meets Sphere's unique imaging requirements
  • Monitor, research and develop emerging and new technologies as they relate to capture gear, techniques and post processes for use in our immersive interactive venues.
  • Overall data organization and scan processing for handoff to other departments
  • Manage photogrammetry technicians in field to ensure highest quality efficient captures
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment is performed by photogrammetry field team
  • Stay on top of new technology, workflows, and software within the 3D data acquisition industry
  • Document workflows and captures for archival and training purposes
  • Work closely with data wranglers to maintain continuity between set notes and captures.
  • Metadata wrangling on as needed basis.
  • Provide exceptional experiences for our guests, partners, and team members, including by adhering to our appearance and presentation guidelines while on-site.  

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor degree in relevant field or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years experience in LiDAR and photogrammetry
  • 6+ years of camera field work experience
  • 2+ years Drone capture experience
  • Extensive understanding of Unreal Engine and real time applications.
  • Expert knowledge of photography and lighting
  • Expert with LiDAR, structured light, photometric stereo and other scanning technologies & software
  • Extensive experience with drone and other aerial capture techniques of large environments.
  • FAA 107 licensed drone pilot
  • Deep understanding of post scan data processing pipeline.
  • Coding capability as it relates to refining and automating processes.
  • In depth knowledge of machine learning reconstruction techniques such as Nerfs and Gaussian Splats
  • Understanding of digital video production, digital workflows, cinematography, and/or post production environment
  • Adaptable/flexible in high-stress environments
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs, and walk 3 miles.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • High level of attention to detail and organization.

Special Requirements

  • Must have Valid Passport for international travel.
  • Be able to travel for extended periods of time on short notice.
