Reports to: Dietary Director



JOB SUMMARY:


The Server position provides table service to residents, staff, and guests by taking orders for food and beverages, delivering orders to the table, and ensuring that residents and guests have a pleasant dining experience. Prepares and serves beverages and meals for the dining department in a safe and appetizing method in compliance with dietary standards, policy, and procedures. Rounds on each table to ensure drinks are filled, condiments are provided and buses table to remove plates and debris. Sets table up again for next resident or meal service. Cleans dining room, tables, chairs and floors as needed and at end of shift. Assists with cleaning the kitchen, washes dishes and returns food to proper storage as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Servers are prepared in uniform, with a smile and good attitude.
  • Greets residents by name & with a smile as they are seated at the table; ensures the table is clean and that utensils, napkins, and other provisions have been provided.
  • Treat residents, families and visitors of the Community with dignity and respect.
  • Distributes menus and presents the daily specials.
  • Answers questions regarding the menu.
  • Takes food and beverage orders and delivers them to the kitchen.
  • Servers are empowered to reject food that doesn’t meet the standard for eye appeal or proper temperature of food.
  • Delivers food, beverages, condiments, and other requested items to customers.
  • Ensures that food is prepared correctly and to customers’ satisfaction; returns incorrect or improperly cooked orders to kitchen.
  • Collects plates and clears the table as customers finish their meals.
  • Assists with other front of house tasks such as cleaning the dining area and preparing silverware and condiments.
  • Prepares and serves hot and cold beverages, such as coffee, blended coffee, and tea, to customers; correctly customizes orders as requested.
  • Describes product details to customers.
  • Serves prepared foods and baked goods.
  • Ensures customer service stations are properly stocked with paper products or beverage preparation items.
  • Cleans and sanitizes all equipment, utensils, dishes, and work areas.
  • Cleans and sanitizes service and seating areas.
  • Ensures proper functioning of freezers, refrigerators, and heating by routinely checking temperatures in that equipment.
  • Preparation and storage of food.
  • Stocks supplies or retail products; may inventory, order, or receive products as directed.
  • Participate in weekly kitchen deep cleaning schedules as directed by the Dietary Director.
  • All other duties as assigned.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with preparation of food items and serves food to residents within scheduled time frame.
  • Assist the Dietary Director and/or cook in maintaining inventory control.
  • Maintains clean, neat, and safe work environment.
  • Assures that residents’ specified diets are followed.
  • Assures employees and resident guest meals are accounted for on a daily basis.
  • Reports to Dietary Director any loss, breakage or waste of supplies and equipment.
  • Observes and communicates to Dietary Director problems or potential problems in the dietary department.
  • Observes and reports any unusual or potentially dangerous resident behavior.
  • Maintains current cleaning list and highest standards for kitchen cleanliness.
  • Has ability to spend long periods of time on feet.
  • Abides by established policies and procedures of Community. Looks for ways to improve Community functioning.
  • Respects resident rights and adheres to Community philosophy of resident care.
  • Organizes and utilizes time appropriately; sets priorities to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations related to health and safety in food preparation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to prepare and serve a wide range of foods skillfully.
  • Ability to maintain professional demeanor under stress.
  • Ability to recognize needs and help others without prompting.
  • Ability to relate well with other employees and residents of the facility.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Experience in dealing with elderly and their dietary needs.
  • Experience preferred in a similar position with a long-term care or related Community.
  • State Criminal Background Check and LIC 508 Criminal Record Statement.
  • LIC 503 Health Screening Report.

ANY CERTIFICATION PER STATE REQUIREMENT:

  • Tuberculosis (TB) clearance as required by the State.
  • First Aid and CPR Certifications as required by the State.
  • Criminal Background check cleared.
  • Certification and/or License as required by the State.
  • Fingerprint clearance as required by the State.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age as outlined in state regulations.
  • Must be able to read, speak and write the English language.
  • Food Handlers card and ServSafe certificate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS:


Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as part of regular duties.
  • Ability to talk and hear to communicate effectively with residents and staff.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds independently.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The following physical actions may be required but are not regularly expected:

  • Sitting
  • Use of hands and fingers to handle or feel
  • Reaching with hands and arms
  • Tasting or smelling
  • Lifting more than 50 pounds (rarely)

Work Environment

  • Regular interaction with co-workers, residents, and vendors.
  • Occasional evening, weekend, or night shifts may be required to ensure proper shift coverage.
  • Subject to potential exposure to:
    • Communicable diseases and infections
    • Various drugs, chemicals, infectious, or biological hazards
    • Environmental hazards such as falls, burns, odors, or equipment-related injuries
  • On-call work may be required on an as-needed basis.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary.
  • There is no anticipated regular exposure to latex or blood-borne pathogens.


Professional office environment. Uses PC, telephones, word processing and other standard office equipment. Attends business-related functions.
