Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

The Diesel Technician diagnoses and repairs diesel engines, emission systems, and related vehicle systems to keep the Company's fleet in safe, reliable operating condition.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Troubleshoot and diagnose diesel engine and emission system malfunctions.

2. Diagnose and repair air brake systems.

3. Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems.

4. Diagnose and repair automotive electrical systems.

5. Diagnose and repair air conditioning (A/C) systems.

6. Maintain accurate records of diagnostics, repairs, and parts used.

7. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

8. Follow all Company safety rules and procedures at all times.



Education / Experience

High school diploma, vocational training, or equivalent. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a diesel technician, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, emission systems, air brake systems, hydraulic systems, and automotive electrical/A/C systems. Familiarity with diagnostic equipment and repair manuals.

Language Skills

Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, technical manuals, and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions and solve practical problems involving several variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid driver's license required. ASE certification(s) preferred. CDL a plus.

Decision Making / Discretion

Moderate latitude to diagnose problems and determine the appropriate repair approach.

Job Complexity

Works on complex diagnostic and repair tasks; solves difficult problems and escalates when needed.

Communication / Interaction

Interacts with colleagues, supervisors, and occasionally vendors; communicates technical findings clearly.

Supervision / Leadership

Works with general supervision; capable of working independently on assigned tasks. Immediate Supervisor is the Shop Supervisor.
