Job description

JOB PURPOSE / SUMMARY
We are looking for a Diesel Mechanic Intern to join our team in Hackensack, NJ. This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in building a career working on heavy construction "yellow iron" equipment such as excavators, loaders, dozers, backhoes, rollers, and other diesel-powered machinery.
The intern will work alongside experienced mechanics and technicians to gain hands-on experience with inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with preventive maintenance on heavy construction equipment
  • Help perform oil changes, filter changes, greasing, fluid checks, and basic service work
  • Support mechanics with equipment inspections and repair work
  • Assist with diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop and work area
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE
  • Help track maintenance and service records as needed
  • Learn proper use of tools, shop equipment, and repair procedures

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment Technology, Automotive Technology, or related program
  • Strong interest in diesel engines and heavy equipment repair
  • Basic mechanical knowledge or mechanical aptitude
  • Basic set of tools to perform mechanical repair responsibilities
  • Willingness to learn and take directions from experienced technicians
  • Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused
  • Ability to work in a shop and outdoor yard environment
  • Valid driver's license preferred
