Job description

We are currently looking for a Radiological Technologist to work with the physician or radiologist to diagnose and treat patients using diagnostic imaging examinations such as X-rays, and fluoroscopy procedures. Must prepare patients and equipment for radiology procedures, maintain equipment and manage the patient flow in the clinics. 

Essential Responsibilities: 

• Instruct and explain procedures to patients to alleviate anxiety and solicit cooperation. 

• Communicate calmly, compassionately, and professionally with all different types of patients including the elderly, ailing, handicapped and young children. 

• Position patients to obtain and affect the results specified for diagnosis. 

• Set equipment to obtain the best density, detail and contrast of the area being imaged. 

• Practice radiation protection in accordance with established regulatory agency requirements. 

• Utilize equipment and report any malfunctions, necessary adjustments or repairs. 

• Perform a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgement and initiative. 

• Perform tasks in the Electronic Medical Record in a timely manner with absolute accuracy (i.e. order for x-ray from a physician). 

• Assist patients in and out of wheelchairs, on and off the x-ray table. 

• Follow mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious events that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patients. 

• Maintain work area in a clean and orderly fashion. 

• Monitor supply use and restock or request reordering of items as required. 

• Under physician direction, assist with administration of DME (booting, splinting, casting). 

• Position requires willingness to work in multiple locations; schedule is issued on a weekly basis. 

• Performs other duties as required by their supervisor. 

Skills and Abilities: 

• Demonstrate ability to perform radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation 

• Experience in general radiography, fluoroscopy, and knowledge of sterile technique is required 

• Experience in orthopedics is preferred 

• Effective communication skills, verbal and written, and excellent interpersonal skills 

• Willingness to cross train for other functions, such as Medical Assistant or at the Front Desk 

• Demonstrated physical agility and strength in order to assist with patients with mobility and transportation aids such as crutches, walkers and wheelchairs 

• Demonstrated physical agility to assist with DME application 

• Demonstrated mental aptitude and physical fitness to respond quickly to emergent situations 

• Demonstrated understanding of EMR software and how to perform required tasks within the patient’s health record  

• Ability to demonstrate understanding of Connecticut Orthopaedics safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures

Experience/Educational requirements: 

• Must be a registered technologist from an accredited school of radiology 

• Must possess a Radiology Technologist license in the state of Connecticut 

• Experience as a Radiology Technologist with a medical practice or hospital is preferred 

• Must have reliable transportation and must be able to work flexible hours
