Description

The Director of the Child Development Center fulfills the mission of the school by coordinating the school's early childhood program. The Director is responsible for providing an appropriately safe, caring, and enriching environment for the children enrolled in the Child Development Center, with is in alignment with the overall school's philosophy, organization, and curriculum.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and ย ย ย ย ย Archdiocese
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being ย ย ย ย ย of self, others. ย ย 
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to ย ย ย ย ย include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
  • Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team ย ย ย ย ย member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Instructional Management

  • Maintain, at all times, high quality childcare standards based on developmentally appropriate practices

Personnel Management

  • Supervise all staff members of the childcare center, including substitute staff.ย 
  • Oversee hiring process and orientation for all new staff.ย 
  • Provide accurate and meaningful annual performance evaluations for all childcare staff.

Management of Fiscal, Administrative, and Facilities Functions

  • Develop a budget for the center and establish controls to assure that the center adheres to the budget.
  • Ensure that the program is cost effective, and funds are managed prudently.
  • Oversee the day-to-day functions of the childcare center and manage staff.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the operation of the childcare center.
  • Assure consistent compliance with all Texas DFPS Minimum Standards, including maintenance of annual fire, health, and other ย ย ย ย ย inspections.ย 
  • Coordinate the annual licensing of the childcare center with DFPS.
  • Oversee the maintenance of files according to DFPS requirements.
  • Maintain open, consistent, and effective communication with parents, providing parent education training, assistance, and support as needed.ย 
  • Provide reliable, accurate and timely information about the childcare center to interested parties.ย 
  • Assist in other projects as assigned by supervisor. ย 
  • Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Department of Catholic Schools and follow directives from location.ย 
  • Follow attendance policy as assigned by location.ย 
  • Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and/or supervisor.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Attend professional development seminars to maintain an understanding of the current best practices of curriculum and ย ย ย ย ย administrative functions of child development programs.
  • Oversee the training and professional development of all childcare staff.

School or Community Relations

  • Articulate the center's mission to employees and other stakeholders and solicit support in realizing the mission.ย 
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.ย 
  • Represent the center in a professional, courteous, and positive manner at all times.ย 
  • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning for staff, students, and parents.ย 
  • Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Effectively communicate staff, students and their families.ย 
  • Perform all duties as assigned.ย 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education

Experience

  • Three years of experience as a classroom teacher of young childrenย 
  • Three to five successful years' experience managing childcareย 

License and Credentials

  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver license
  • Valid vehicle insurance
  • Certified as a Director of a child care center per the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services preferred

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of childcare center operations
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, computer, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to coordinate center functions
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Knowledge and implementation of Texas childcare guidelines and state licensing
  • Comprehensive knowledge and proven success implementing programs for children based on developmentally appropriate ย ย ย ย ย practicesย 
  • Accepts and respects differences in children, parents and coworkersย 
  • Ability to manage a budget
