Job description

Job Description
A bit about this role:
  • You will lead our expanding internal Behavioral Health service line as a key senior member of the Devoted Medical team, a virtual-first clinical provider organization dedicated to delivering comprehensive, proactive population health management.
  • This is an elite 50/50 hybrid role where you will act as a senior strategist inventing an integrated virtual Serious Mental Illness (SMI) clinic and mood disorder program from scratch, while simultaneously serving as our sole internal psychiatric clinical authority carrying an active direct-care prescribing panel.
  • You will report directly to our Medical Director for Primary Care, and partner cross-functionally with exceptional data, engineering, and clinical operations teams to scale integrated workflows across our national Medicare Advantage portfolio.
  • You will have ultimate management, budget, and clinical oversight responsibilities for an expanding cadre of dedicated advanced practice providers (APPs), medical doctors, a Social Work Manager, and frontline licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs).

Responsibilities and Impact will include:
  • Clinical Strategy & Program Architecture: You will own the strategic design, rollout, and execution of zero-to-one integrated behavioral health services and virtual SMI clinics, moving them from phase 0 to enterprise scalability within one year to radically transform value-based care delivery.
  • Vanguard Psychiatric Care Delivery: You will devote 50% of your time to direct patient care, acting as the primary treating psychiatrist and prescriber for our highest-acuity, medically fragile geriatric members during critical stabilization windows, and steering our national asynchronous curbside e-consult ecosystem.
  • Value-Based Care Optimization: You will design clinical workflows strictly optimized for Total Cost of Care (TCOC) reduction, population health KPIs (symptom remission, PHQ-9 tracking, and ED diversion), completely unfettered by traditional fee-for-service billing red tape.
  • Care Team Leadership & Resource Management: You will own the portfolio's operating budget, define organizational structures, and lead the recruitment, mentoring, performance auditing, and direct supervision of all MDs, APPs, and frontline staff across the service line.
  • EMR & Tech Innovation Partnership: You will collaborate directly with our engineering and data teams to co-develop, test, and optimize our custom, from-the-ground-up EMR (Orinoco), embedding generative AI features to directly eliminate administrative charting burdens for your clinicians.
  • Safety, Compliance, & National Dissemination: You will serve as the final corporate owner of behavioral health policies, procedures, and patient safety compliance, while cultivating an industry-wide network to disseminate Devoted's clinical innovations on a national scale.

Required skills and experience:
  • Credentials & Certifications: You must possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree and hold an active, unrestricted Board Certification in Adult Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
  • Clinical & Startup Depth: You must show a minimum of 3-5 years of active clinical experience managing high-acuity SMI, severe mood disorders, schizophrenia, or complex geriatric populations, alongside a proven track record of operational leadership, budget management, or program building in a healthcare system or digital health startup.
  • Integrated Care Mastery: You must possess deep practical experience implementing, auditing, or designing Collaborative Care Models (CoCM) or integrated behavioral health registries across collaborative multi-disciplinary care settings.
  • Licensing Agility & Virtual Infrastructure: You must have a high comfort level utilizing telehealth platforms, and you must hold an active medical license in at least one core market with the unconditional willingness to aggressively obtain multi-state licensure as our virtual footprint expands nationally.
  • The "Happy Warrior" Attribute: You must demonstrate the attributes of a metrics-driven, resilient servant leader who enjoys working at a fast, iterative startup pace, possesses the agility to pivot based on real-time data, and passionately "sweats the details" of patient care.

Desired skills and experience:
  • Active Board Certification or fellowship training in Geriatric Psychiatry or Consultation-Liaison (C-L) Psychiatry, combined with direct experience managing dually eligible (D-SNP) Medicaid/Medicare populations.
  • Formal training in continuous improvement methodologies (such as a Lean Six Sigma belt) and previous experience partnering with product software engineers on custom EMR optimization or medical AI applications.
