Is DevOps dead due to AI?

DevOps developers continue to play a vital role in automating and managing software deployment, infrastructure, and continuous integration processes. While AI tools are increasingly used to enhance efficiency, they complement rather than replace the core skills of DevOps professionals, who focus on system reliability, scripting, and tool integration.

What does a DevOps developer do?

A DevOps developer is responsible for integrating software development and IT operations to improve deployment frequency, reliability, and automation. They work with tools like Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes to automate infrastructure, monitor systems, and ensure continuous integration and delivery. Strong scripting skills and knowledge of cloud platforms are essential for this role.

What are DevOps Developers?

DevOps Developers are IT professionals who combine software development (Dev) and IT operations (Ops) skills to streamline the process of building, testing, and deploying applications. They focus on automating processes, improving collaboration between development and operations teams, and ensuring reliable and efficient software delivery. DevOps Developers often work with tools for continuous integration, continuous deployment (CI/CD), and infrastructure automation. Their goal is to shorten the software development lifecycle while delivering high-quality software. They are skilled in programming, cloud platforms, and system administration.

How does a DevOps Developer typically collaborate with software engineers and IT operations teams?

A DevOps Developer acts as a bridge between software development and IT operations, working closely with both teams to streamline the software delivery process. They are often responsible for automating deployment pipelines, monitoring system health, and ensuring that code moves smoothly from development to production environments. Collaboration usually involves regular stand-up meetings, code reviews, and joint troubleshooting sessions to resolve issues quickly. Effective communication and a strong understanding of both development and infrastructure are crucial for success in this role.

Is DevOps a high paying job?

DevOps developers typically earn higher-than-average salaries due to their expertise in automation, cloud platforms, and tools like Docker and Kubernetes. Compensation varies by experience, location, and industry, but it is generally considered a well-paying role in the tech field.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior DevOps engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills in automation, cloud platforms, and infrastructure management can earn $500,000 or more annually, especially in high-cost-of-living areas or large organizations. Achieving this level typically requires advanced certifications, leadership roles, and a strong track record of managing complex systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a DevOps Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a DevOps Developer, you need proficiency in software development, automation, CI/CD practices, and a solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, along with certifications like AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, is often required. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help bridge the gap between development and operations teams. These capabilities ensure faster, reliable software delivery and efficient system management in dynamic tech environments.

Job description

Company Description

Saatchi & Saatchi is an advertising agency with the belief that creativity, data, media and technology should all work together, and we use that to influence human behavior and drive success for clients. S&S is one of the world's largest agency networks with 114 offices and more than 6000 employees globally. Here in our Toronto office we work with some of the countries most valued brands including Toyota, Buckley's, and Children's Advil, as well as several under the Mondelez banner (Crispers, Oreo, and Chips Ahoy just to name a few). We're an award winning agency in both creativity and effectiveness, so it's really important for us here to convert that innovation and the great ideas into real tangible business results for the organization.

Overview

We are looking for a skilled DevOps Engineer with experience in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and automation processes that support AEM and other CMS platforms. You will collaborate with development teams, system administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth deployment, monitoring, and optimization of CMS environments, helping to drive continuous integration and delivery.

Responsibilities
  • AEM Infrastructure Management: Design, deploy, and maintain scalable, secure, and highly available AEM environments across development, staging, and production.
  • Automation & CI/CD Pipelines: Build and manage continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to automate the deployment of AEM applications, ensuring minimal downtime and fast, reliable releases.
  • Monitoring & Performance Optimization: Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions for AEM and non AEM environments to ensure high availability and performance. Identify and resolve bottlenecks and performance issues.
  • Cloud & Containerization: Deploy and manage AEM and other CMS on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and container orchestration systems such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement security best practices for AEM environments, including secure configuration, access management, and vulnerability assessments. Ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies.
  • Collaboration & Support: Work closely with AEM developers, system administrators, and other teams to troubleshoot issues, optimize infrastructure, and ensure seamless integration of AEM solutions with other services.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation to manage infrastructure automation and ensure consistency across environments.
  • Backup & Recovery: Implement reliable backup and disaster recovery strategies for AEM environments to minimize downtime and data loss.
  • Agile & DevOps Practices: Promote and implement DevOps best practices, including automation, continuous improvement, and agile collaboration with development and operations teams.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer or in a related field, with hands-on experience managing AEM environments.
  • Strong understanding of Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) architecture, including the author/publisher structure, dispatcher configurations, and AEM optimization techniques.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and containerization using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Expertise in setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI.
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git and repository management best practices.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation).
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash, or PowerShell) for automating tasks and managing deployments.
  • Proficiency in monitoring and alerting solutions such as Nagios, Prometheus, ELK Stack, or New Relic.
  • Knowledge of networking, load balancing, and security best practices in cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Ability to work in an Agile environment and support development teams with DevOps best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with AEM Cloud Service and AEM as a Cloud-native solution.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Marketing Cloud solutions and their integration with AEM.
  • Certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert).
  • Experience with disaster recovery and high availability strategies for AEM environments.
  • Familiarity with AEM Dispatcher configurations and performance
