Is DevOps dead due to AI?

DevOps developers focus on automating software development and deployment processes, and AI tools are increasingly used to enhance automation, monitoring, and decision-making. While AI changes some workflows, it complements DevOps practices rather than replacing the role, which requires skills in scripting, cloud platforms, and CI/CD tools. The demand for DevOps expertise remains strong as organizations seek efficient, reliable software delivery.

What does a DevOps developer do?

A DevOps developer is responsible for integrating and automating software development and IT operations to improve deployment efficiency and reliability. They work with tools like Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes to automate build, test, and deployment processes, often maintaining continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines. Strong scripting skills and knowledge of cloud platforms are essential for this role.

What are DevOps Developers?

DevOps Developers are IT professionals who combine software development (Dev) and IT operations (Ops) skills to streamline the process of building, testing, and deploying applications. They focus on automating processes, improving collaboration between development and operations teams, and ensuring reliable and efficient software delivery. DevOps Developers often work with tools for continuous integration, continuous deployment (CI/CD), and infrastructure automation. Their goal is to shorten the software development lifecycle while delivering high-quality software. They are skilled in programming, cloud platforms, and system administration.

Can I learn DevOps in 3 months?

Learning DevOps as a DevOps Developer in three months is possible to gain foundational knowledge of key concepts, tools, and practices such as CI/CD, containerization, and cloud platforms. However, mastering the role typically requires ongoing experience and continuous learning beyond initial training. Focused study, hands-on projects, and certifications like AWS or Kubernetes can accelerate the learning process.

How does a DevOps Developer typically collaborate with software engineers and IT operations teams?

A DevOps Developer acts as a bridge between software development and IT operations, working closely with both teams to streamline the software delivery process. They are often responsible for automating deployment pipelines, monitoring system health, and ensuring that code moves smoothly from development to production environments. Collaboration usually involves regular stand-up meetings, code reviews, and joint troubleshooting sessions to resolve issues quickly. Effective communication and a strong understanding of both development and infrastructure are crucial for success in this role.

Is DevOps still in demand in 2026?

DevOps developers remain in high demand in 2026 due to the ongoing need for automation, continuous integration, and cloud infrastructure management. Skills in tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure are highly valued, and organizations continue to prioritize DevOps practices to improve deployment speed and reliability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a DevOps Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a DevOps Developer, you need proficiency in software development, automation, CI/CD practices, and a solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, along with certifications like AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, is often required. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help bridge the gap between development and operations teams. These capabilities ensure faster, reliable software delivery and efficient system management in dynamic tech environments.

Job description

Caseware is one of Canada's original Fintech companies, having led the global audit and accounting software industry for over 30 years, with more than 500,000 users across 130 countries and available in 16 different languages. While you might not have heard of us (yet) over 36,000 accounting and audit professionals list Caseware as a skill on their LinkedIn profiles!

Join us to build the internal platform that powers fast, safe, and scalable delivery across a large Nx monorepo with 1,000+ projects.

You will shape the developer experience for teams shipping TypeScript, Angular, NestJS, Java services, serverless workloads, and AWS cloud infrastructure.

This role is for engineers who love monorepos, automation, architecture, and solving real platform complexity at scale.

This is a full-time permanent position

This is an existing vacancy

 Location:

This is a hybrid role requiring the successful candidate to work 3 days a week in our Toronto office, located at 351 King St E , Toronto, ON.

What you will be doing:
  • Design and evolve high-signal GitHub Actions pipelines for build, test, release, and deployment workflows.

  • Optimize pipeline performance, reliability, and feedback loops across multi-language projects (TypeScript, Java, and Python).

  • Build and maintain reusable CI/CD building blocks that product teams can adopt with minimal friction.

  • Improve release safety with stronger validation gates, rollout strategies, and automation around quality checks.

  • Drive Nx monorepo scalability through task orchestration, cache strategy, affected project workflows, and developer productivity improvements.

  • Build internal devkit tooling and generators to standardize platform patterns and reduce repetitive engineering work.

  • Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code using AWS CDK, Helm, and GitOps patterns (Flux).

  • Support Kubernetes-based workloads and deployment architecture across environments.

  • Partner with engineering teams on service hardening including observability, resilience, scaling, and operational readiness.

  • Improve platform security posture through guardrails, policy automation, and least-privilege patterns.

  • Reliability and Developer Experience

  • Raise service and pipeline reliability through strong monitoring, alerting, and incident-ready runbooks.

  • Improve operability with actionable logs, traces, metrics, and dashboards.

  • Reduce cognitive load for feature teams by making the golden path fast and intuitive.

  • Coach teams on delivery standards, DevOps maturity, and production best practices.

What you bring:
  • 4+ years in DevOps, Platform Engineering, SRE, or software engineering roles with strong operational ownership.

  • Strong TypeScript proficiency for platform tooling, CI/CD automation, and infrastructure code.

  • Production experience with AWS and infrastructure-as-code, with AWS CDK as a strong plus.

  • Deep experience designing and operating GitHub Actions pipelines in medium-to-large codebases.

  • Strong understanding of build systems, dependency management, and monorepo-scale engineering.

  • Experience implementing secure CI/CD practices, release controls, and environment promotion strategies.

  • Solid Linux and Docker debugging skills in cloud-native environments.

  • Nx monorepo expertise, including task graph optimization, affected workflows, and caching strategy.

  • Hands-on Kubernetes experience and Helm chart management in real delivery environments.

  • Experience with GitOps delivery models such as Flux.

  • Familiarity with mixed-stack monorepos (Angular, NestJS, Java, and serverless workloads).

  • Experience with observability platforms (metrics, logs, traces, alerting) and production incident response.

Salary Range:

The annual base salary for this position is between $125,000 CAD and $140,000 CAD per year.
