Is AI replacing DevOps?

AI is increasingly being integrated into DevOps practices to automate tasks such as testing, deployment, and monitoring, enhancing efficiency and reducing manual effort. However, DevOps developers still play a crucial role in designing, managing, and optimizing these AI-driven tools and processes, making AI a complement rather than a replacement for their expertise.

What are DevOps Developers?

DevOps Developers are IT professionals who combine software development (Dev) and IT operations (Ops) skills to streamline the process of building, testing, and deploying applications. They focus on automating processes, improving collaboration between development and operations teams, and ensuring reliable and efficient software delivery. DevOps Developers often work with tools for continuous integration, continuous deployment (CI/CD), and infrastructure automation. Their goal is to shorten the software development lifecycle while delivering high-quality software. They are skilled in programming, cloud platforms, and system administration.

How does a DevOps Developer typically collaborate with software engineers and IT operations teams?

A DevOps Developer acts as a bridge between software development and IT operations, working closely with both teams to streamline the software delivery process. They are often responsible for automating deployment pipelines, monitoring system health, and ensuring that code moves smoothly from development to production environments. Collaboration usually involves regular stand-up meetings, code reviews, and joint troubleshooting sessions to resolve issues quickly. Effective communication and a strong understanding of both development and infrastructure are crucial for success in this role.

Is DevOps still in demand in 2026?

DevOps developers remain in high demand in 2026 due to the ongoing need for automation, continuous integration, and cloud infrastructure management. Skills in tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure are highly valued, and organizations continue to prioritize DevOps practices to improve deployment efficiency and reliability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a DevOps Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a DevOps Developer, you need proficiency in software development, automation, CI/CD practices, and a solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, along with certifications like AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, is often required. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help bridge the gap between development and operations teams. These capabilities ensure faster, reliable software delivery and efficient system management in dynamic tech environments.

Job description

The Opportunity

We are looking for aAWS DevOps Developer to join our infrastructure team and play a critical role in a modernization initiative managing and evolving the cloud environment that powers Euna's enterprise public budgeting platform. This is a highly independent, hands-on role for someone who thrives with ownership, stays ahead of the technology curve, and brings a genuine passion for AI-driven innovation to their work every day. Our development team is currently transforming a legacy monolithic single tenant AWS Ec2 n-tier environment into a scalable, cutting edge solution.

You will be the go-to expert for our AWS infrastructure, ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of enterprise-level applications used by thousands of public sector users across North America. If you love solving complex infrastructure problems, embrace emerging AI tools to amplify your impact, and want your work to matter to real communities - this role is for you.

What You'll Do

  • Architect, deploy, and manage AWS EC2 infrastructure hosting enterprise public budgeting software, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance
  • Own day-to-day operations of Windows Server and Linux environments running ASPX/VB.NET applications backed by Microsoft SQL Server
  • Manage DNS, routing, and network configurations across Route 53 and Cloudflare, including load balancing, failover, and traffic management
  • Lead cloud security posture management using Wiz, proactively identifying and remediating vulnerabilities and misconfigurations
  • Administer and maintain AWS Patch Manager to ensure consistent, timely patching across all managed instances
  • Support and maintain SAP Business Objects environments integrated with the budgeting platform
  • Initially focus on migration of production assets from the existing AWS environment to a new modernized account.
  • Collaborate with development and product teams to review architecture decisions and recommend infrastructure improvements
  • Drive cloud cost optimization efforts and capacity planning
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code, runbooks, and technical documentation
  • Champion the adoption of AI tools - including Anthropic Claude and Microsoft Copilot - to enhance team productivity, automate routine tasks, and accelerate problem-solving
  • Participate in on-call rotation and incident response for critical infrastructure issues
  • Stay current with AWS services, security best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to public sector SaaS

What You Bring

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of hands-on AWS infrastructure experience, with demonstrated expertise in EC2, VPC, IAM, Route 53, and related core services
  • Deep experience supporting enterprise .NET applications (ASPX, VB.NET) with Microsoft SQL Server on Windows Server in a production environment
  • Proficiency with Route 53 and Cloudflare for DNS management, CDN configuration, and network routing
  • Hands-on experience with Wiz for cloud security and compliance posture management
  • Experience using AWS Patch Manager (or AWS Systems Manager) for patching Windows and Linux fleets at scale
  • Strong Linux and Windows Server administration skills
  • Working knowledge of SAP Business Objects in an enterprise environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage priorities without heavy oversight
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document infrastructure clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences

Strongly Preferred

  • AWS certification(s): Solutions Architect - Professional or DevOps Engineer - Professional preferred
  • Experience supporting SaaS products in regulated or public sector environments
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation)
  • Active enthusiasm for AI productivity tools, particularly Anthropic Claude and Microsoft Copilot, and a track record of finding creative ways to apply them in infrastructure and operations work
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

Who You Are

  • Self-directed. You own your work end to end. You don't wait to be told what to do next - you identify the problem, form a plan, and execute.
  • Security-minded. You think about the attack surface before someone else has to ask you to.
  • Curious about AI. You're already experimenting with Claude, Copilot, or similar tools to make your infrastructure work smarter and faster - and you're excited to bring that mindset to the team.
  • Mission-aligned. You find meaning in knowing that the infrastructure you maintain helps government agencies responsibly manage public dollars and serve their communities.
  • Calm under pressure. When production has an issue, you're the steady voice with a plan.
