Position Title: Development Assistant

Program: Administration

Reports To: Director of Development & Community Relations

Classification: Full time, Non-Exempt

Wage: $22 - $26/hour, DOE

Job Summary: The Development Assistant supports the Director of Development & Community Relations in implementing the development, fundraising and community engagement. This position has primary responsibility for print materials, newsletters, online content, and engaging the public to increase agency visibility.

Essential Job Functions:Fundraising and Development
  • With the Development Director, creates, updates, and implements annual fundraising plans to increase revenue for the agency
  • Coordinates fundraising campaigns (including annual direct mail appeals) and special events to secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations/businesses
  • Supports, solicits, thanks, and engages donors to meet fundraising goals; assists with stewardship of major donors, planned giving, and foundation relationships
  • Manages donor database; creates and generates acknowledgements, receipts and thank you notes in a timely manner
  • Serves as primary point of contact for inkind donors and supporter inquiries
  • Maintains grant files, including potential funder info and grant applications submitted
  • Assists with researching potential sources of grant funding, writing letters of intent and grant applications, and maintaining schedules for private foundation grant applications, reports, and renewals
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Coordinates and designs online and print communications for the agency, including newsletters and enews, agency/program marketing materials and promotional display, annual report, social media, and website content
  • Coordinates awarenessraising events and advocacyrelated publicity
  • Maintains agency mailing lists and designs strategies to reach/engage different audiences
  • Interviews and interacts with staff and youth clients; uses data and reallife examples to tell the story of agencyโ€™s impact and results
  • Conducts tours and represents agency for presentations
  • Administrative and Community Engagement
  • Interacts with staff, youth/clients, donors, volunteers, and the public in a friendly, professional, and welcoming manner; models respect and encourages culture of philanthropy
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of client, agency, and donor information
  • Utilizes fundraising and marketing data to monitor and report on campaigns and results
  • Assists with compilation of agency client data into reports and dashboards for use in grant applications, reporting, quality assurance, and development/marketing efforts
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Specifications and Qualifications

    Education and Training:

    Training in nonprofit fundraising, development, public relations, and event planning preferred.

    Job Related Experience:

    Experience in non-profit development work and/or successful fundraising required, including direct mail appeals; events; use of CRM/donor database (Givebutter); and marketing or public relations. Familiarity with youth development or homeless programs, and advocacy preferred.

    Specialized Skills:

    Excellent communications skills, both written and oral; ability to engage and influence others via phone, email, and in person. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Able to work independently and as a team. Windows-based computer, word processing, layout, mail merge, Excel, and web/social media skills required. Data analysis, database, graphic design or photography/video skills, and valid driverโ€™s license preferred.

    Cognitive Requirements:

    Able to communicate and write skillfully in English, and compose original content and correspondence with excellent readability. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Able to self teach/self-directed. Flexibility and ability to multi-task is a must.

    Physical Requirements:

    Able to sit for long periods, climb stairs, lift and sort donations, use a computer, speak in public, and travel to community sites. Able to lift 10 pounds or more

    Work Environment:

    Office environment and various community settings. This is a full-time (40 hours/week) in-person office position with work performed during normal weekday business hours. Occasional schedule changes, evening or weekend hours, and/or travel required for deadlines and events.
