We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Manager I to join the del Mármol Lab at Harvard Medical School. At the del Mármol Lab, we are deciphering the molecular logic of the sense of smell using cutting-edge structural biology (cryo-EM), electrophysiology and neurophysiology. Our ultimate goal is to uncover how insect vectors of disease-like mosquitoes-detect their human hosts, and use these insights to develop mechanisms of disease control. This is an excellent opening for someone looking to establish themselves long-term in a lab management role - whether you are an experienced lab manager ready to grow, or a senior research technician looking to take that next step and transition into lab management. The del Mármol Lab focuses on the molecular mechanisms of sensory processing, with an emphasis in understanding the sense of smell in insect vectors of disease. We offer a dynamic and collaborative environment where your contributions will have a meaningful and lasting impact. For more information about the lab and their work, please visit the del Mármol Lab website.
About the Laboratory Manager I Role:

What you'll do:
  • Operational Command: Oversee general lab operations, including ordering, receiving, organizing stock, and evaluating new materials and state-of-the-art equipment.
  • Scientific Support: Maintain essential cell lines and cell cultures, and support ongoing experiments and structural biology research workflows (up to 25% of your role).
  • Team Leadership & Culture: Train new lab members, provide supervisory oversight, and help foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive lab environment.
  • Administrative Excellence: Assist with budget management, reimbursements, scheduling lab agendas, and organizing meetings.
  • Safety & Compliance: Act as the primary liaison between the lab and HMS safety/regulatory offices. Develop lab guidelines and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs).

What you bring:
  • Management skills: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. First-hand experience and understanding of the operational needs of a research lab.
  • Attitude: A positive, collaborative attitude and enthusiasm for building a strong lab culture.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a STEM field.
  • Experience: Three or more years of lab experience, including at least one year of supervisory experience (senior level technicians with a strong desire to transition into a stable management position are encouraged to apply!).

Physical Requirements:
