Development Data Specialist

HIAS seeks a Development Data Specialist to support the day-to-day administration and maintenance of the Raiser's Edge NXT (RENXT) database. Reporting to the Director, Revenue Operations, the Development Data Specialist is responsible for processing data requests, maintaining accurate constituent records, generating routine and ad hoc reports, and supporting fundraising campaigns through timely and accurate data management. The role applies specialized knowledge of fundraising databases and data management practices to ensure the integrity and usability of constituent information while supporting established Development operations and processes.

Note, this position is based at our headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland or our office in New York, New York, and we will consider a remote option for applicants who live outside of commuting distance to either of our offices and are based in other states in which we are registered (California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia).

The salary range for this position is $65,000-75,000.00.

Essential Functions:
  • Process and fulfill Raiser's Edge NXT data requests, including list pulls, segmentation, queries, and exports in support of fundraising campaigns and Development team activities.
  • Perform routine data maintenance activities, including duplication address updates, returned mail processing, deceased record updates, and other quality tasks in accordance with established procedures.
  • Create and maintain queries, exports, and constituent groups to support fundraising operations and reporting needs.
  • Apply and maintain constituent coding structures, communication preferences, and other database fields in accordance with established departmental standards and procedures.
  • Support data imports, exports, and integration-related activities between Raiser's Edge NXT and third-party platforms, escalating issues and discrepancies as appropriate.
  • Maintain documentation related to database processes, reporting procedures and routine operational workflows.
  • Identify data discrepancies and system issues and communicate findings to the Director, Revenue Operations for review and resolution.
  • Prepare and distribute data files for fundraising campaigns in accordance with established requirements and timelines.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum 2โ€“4 years of direct experience working in Raiser's Edge or Raiser's Edge NXT in a nonprofit fundraising environment.
  • Experience creating database queries, reports, and exports to support fundraising operations and reporting needs. Experience with Crystal Reports, RENXT analytics tools, and Power BI/Fabrice is a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of nonprofit data hygiene best practices, including NCOA/CASS processing, deduplication logic, and gift coding standards.
  • Ability to follow established procedures while managing multiple priorities and maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail; ability to identify and resolve data inconsistencies independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience handling large data files, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and pivot tables.
  • Familiarity with direct mail production workflows and data file specifications for mail house vendors preferred.
  • Strong written communication skills; ability to document processes clearly for non-technical staff.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet tight campaign deadlines, and communicate proactively when timelines are at risk.
  • Experience working with or for a Jewish organization a plus.
