Jefferson Parish Civil Service is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Purpose of Announcement EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL EIGHT (8) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCIES IN THE DEPARTMENT OF JEFFERSON COMMUNITY ACTION PROGRAM - HEAD START. This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur.

Note: For this position, 22 pay periods of the year will be 40-hour work weeks. 4 pay periods (2 pay periods at beginning of fiscal year and 2 pay periods at fiscal year-end) will be 35-hour work weeks. Non-exempt from overtime compensation.

May be required to adjust schedule to include occasional different starting and stopping times based upon the needs of the service. May require occasional evening and weekend work. Will be required to work whatever hours are necessary to satisfactorily perform the duties and demands of the position.

Kind of Work Employee assists the Head Start Teacher in planning and implementing daily program including schedules, routines, and lesson plans for the total development of a group of pre-school age children. Responsibilities include supervising the children and assessing their progress, performing specific teaching activities, preparing room for meals and rest periods, visiting participants' homes, and maintaining related records. Also, assumes responsibilities of teacher when necessary.

Applicants proficient in English and Spanish (i.e., fluent in both languages) are encouraged to apply. Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination Applicants must meet one (1) of the following: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent; PLUS certification as a Child Development Associate (CDA). Possession of an Associate's degree or higher degree from an accredited college in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or in an equivalent education major in which the primary focus of study is the care and development of preschool children (i.e., children 3 to 5 years-of-age)

Possession of an Associate's degree or higher degree from an accredited college in any subject, including at least eighteen (18) credit hours of coursework relating to ECE. NOTE: Coursework relating to ECE may include courses offered in various departments (e.g., Education, Music, Art, Library Sciences, Physical Education and Recreation, Psychology...etc.); however, this coursework must address early childhood education or child development with a focus on children ages 3 to 5 years. Must be able to pass a state background check with no felony convictions and no misdemeanor convictions deemed relevant to work performed in this classification

Any conviction listed in the Louisiana Child Protection Act (Louisiana R.S. 15:587.1) is considered disqualifying, unless written proof of pardon is submitted in time for consideration with the application.
