The Climbers Leadership Development Program (CLDP)

The Climbers Leadership Development Program (CLDP) is a rotational leadership development program designed to accelerate the growth of future leaders within BD UCC. The 2 ½ year program includes five six‑month rotational assignments across Quality, R&D, Marketing, Operations, and a flexible rotation (PMO, Innovation, Regulatory, etc.). Rotations are primarily located in Covington, GA, with select opportunities at other BD UCC locations depending on business needs and rotation assignments. Climbers work on meaningful, high‑impact projects while developing technical expertise, business acumen, cross‑functional collaboration skills, and leadership capabilities that prepare them for long‑term career growth within BD UCC. The CLDP is designed to accelerate career development by providing experiences typically gained over many years through traditional career paths. Additionally, Climbers build strong professional relationships with leaders, subject matter experts, and fellow associates across multiple functions throughout BD UCC.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Quality Contribute to the risk management of new and existing products Create and review documents required for Design History Files including Design Verification and Validation Protocols and Reports Participate in Internal and External Audits Support CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions) and continuous improvement initiatives Research & Development Plan, execute, and document product development activities supporting new or improved products Plan, coordinate, and complete Voice of Customer activities and User Research studies Develop project management capabilities, collect user feedback or input, generate user and product requirements, and participate in quarterly ideation day contests Support engineering teams with test method development, validation study design, protocol/report generation, and verification & validation (V&V) testing execution Perform verification and validation tests and experiments in accordance with the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) Manufacturing Lead design transfer activities (e.g., IQ, OQ, PQ) for New Product Development or cost improvement initiatives for Sustaining Engineering Develop and implement improvements to manufacturing procedures.
  • Marketing Lead market research planning and execution to collect voice of customer for New Product Development or Sustaining Engineering projects (e.g., interviews, surveys, hospital visits) Develop or update product labeling for projects and marketing promotional materials for upcoming launches Support the marketing and sales team at external conferences and internal meetings (e.g., National Sales Meeting) Conduct market data research and competitive analysis to aid in business cases.
  • Regulatory Affairs (Flexible Rotation Option) Provide regulatory support for New Product Development or Sustaining Engineering projects (e.g., developing regulatory strategies, timeline development, and reviewing submission related documents) and prepare worldwide submissions, as required Provide review of product labeling for worldwide regulatory compliance.
  • Innovation (Flexible Rotation Option) Execute UCC’s early ideation process using a modified Stanford Biodesign methodology to discover and characterize new clinical and business opportunities Lead upstream market research planning and execution to collect voice of customer for projects in the innovation pipeline (e.g. interviews, surveys, hospital visits) Plan and execute activities of quarterly ideation day contest Partner with internal BD associates and external partners for product prototyping and voice of customer efforts.
  • Project Management (Flexible Rotation Option) Provide oversight and support to project teams throughout the development cycle to help project teams manage the budget, schedule, and risk profile for their projects Create accurate, data‑driven estimates for cross functional project assumptions Support the creation and implementation of project management tools and initiatives Manage the NPD reporting program.
Required qualifications
  • Education: BS or BS / MS in Engineering from a 4‑year college. Preferred majors: Biomedical, Electrical, Material, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering Expected graduation between December 2026 and June 2027.
Experience
  • Prior Co‑Op / Internship experience preferred.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.
  • Geographic flexibility.
  • Understand basic applied statistics.
  • Understand Basic Fundamentals of Engineering Principles.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and multiple assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).

  • May include visits to clinical sites or hospitals.
