The ServiceNow Developer is an individual contributor responsible for the design, configuration, development, and support of solutions on the ServiceNow platform, with a primary focus on the Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) suite – including Demand Management, Project Portfolio Management (PPM), Resource Management, and Agile Development. The Developer builds and enhances platform capabilities using ServiceNow best practices and JavaScript to deliver scalable, maintainable solutions that give leadership clear visibility into demand, investments, resources, and delivery across the enterprise portfolio. The role is broadly split between project-based work – developing and deploying new SPM capabilities and business process improvements – and day-to-day operational support of existing ServiceNow application services. The successful Developer serves as a liaison between other technical staff, management, business users, and vendors regarding requirements, solution design, standards, security, and platform health, and provides both on-site and remote diagnosis and resolution of application and business process issues.

What You’ll Do

     ServiceNow SPM Development, Configuration & Systems Design

  • Designs, configures, and develops solutions within the ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) suite, including Demand Management, Project Portfolio Management (PPM), Resource Management, Time Entry and Agile Development / Scrum.
  • Builds and maintains ServiceNow platform components – Business Rules, Client Scripts, UI Policies, UI Actions, Script Includes, ACLs, Flow Designer flows, and Integration Hub spokes – using JavaScript and the Glide API (GlideRecord, GlideAjax, GlideSystem).
  • Leads / Participates in the design, development and enhancement of business specific custom and standard applications.
  • Provides in-depth technical consultation to clients and IT management to ensure development of efficient application systems utilizing established standards, procedures, and methodologies. 
  • Documents necessary technical design and analysis work, including project postmortem documentation and metric collection.
  • Maintains application documentation and process topology to ensure alignment between the business strategies and the technology roadmap.

     Technology Strategy & Innovation

  • Provides integrated systems planning and recommends new or different technologies which will enhance current systems and support overall corporate and business goals.
  • Researches and evaluates new and/or alternative solutions and technologies to enhance operational effectiveness and reduce costs.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve global standardization and organizational efficiencies.
  • Researches, analyzes, develops and documents new processes and procedures to implement and update solutions to meet business needs.

     Stakeholder Engagement & Operational Support

  • Leads / Participates in requirements gathering in order to provide technical guidance on systems options and solutions.
  • Establishes/maintains lines of communication with stakeholders with a view to keeping all parties informed of incidents, problems and resolution.
  • Serves as a point of escalation for team members’ issues requiring a higher degree of expertise or discretion to resolve and ensure timely resolution of issues by focusing on root cause analysis and implementing corrective action plans.

 

     Governance, Standards & Best Practices

  • Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of best-practice standards, policies, procedures, and associated training plans to ensure optimal daily operations are maintained.
  • Oversees promotion of configuration/development changes through environment (i.e., write functional specifications, perform and/or coordinate testing, obtain customer approvals and supporting documentation and support promotion of code/configuration to production) in order to meet the company’s business objectives.
  • Assists in the creation and maintenance of multi-year functional roadmaps for assigned disciplines.
  • Contributes to the development of overall strategy, tactics, planning and execution of initiatives to support IT services.

  • Demonstrated configuration and administration experience in ServiceNow including update sets, Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, CMDB, Knowledge Management, Service Portal, Strategic Portfolio Management, Service Catalog.
  • Proven ability to develop new and modified standard and custom ServiceNow applications and related functionality including scoped applications, business rules, client scripts, script includes, workflow, and tables/fields.
  • Proven ability to develop extraction and transformation processes via Integration Hub, import sets, transformation maps.
  • Proven expertise in JavaScript, including client-side and server-side scripting with the ServiceNow Glide API (GlideRecord, GlideAjax, GlideSystem, GlideForm). Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, Jelly, and AngularJS / Service Portal widgets.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and developing the ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM/PPM) suite, including Demand Management, Project Portfolio Management, Application Portfolio Management, Resource Management, and Agile / Scrum boards.
  • Proficiency with core ServiceNow development artifacts: Business Rules, Client Scripts, UI Policies, UI Actions, Script Includes, ACLs, Flow Designer, and Notifications.
  • Experience building and maintaining integrations using Integration Hub, REST and SOAP web services, MID Server, and data sources / transform maps.

  • 3+ years of hands-on ServiceNow development experience, including demonstrable work on the Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) / Project Portfolio Management (PPM) applications preferred.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office products.
