Mechanical Field Engineer

About the Opportunity

Mechanical Field Engineer to support industrial construction and facility expansion projects within a manufacturing environment. This position will serve as the technical liaison between project management, contractors, and field construction teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and in compliance with engineering standards and specifications.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with industrial or commercial construction projects, mechanical building systems, commissioning activities, contractor coordination, and construction administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support mechanical building system startups, commissioning, and equipment handover activities.

  • Review and provide technical input on equipment submittals, shop drawings, design drawings, specifications, and contractor RFIs.

  • Coordinate equipment factory acceptance testing, delivery, installation, commissioning, and startup activities.

  • Conduct field inspections to verify compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes.

  • Oversee mechanical contractors and monitor project progress, schedule adherence, and coordination efforts.

  • Support construction administration activities including scheduling, quality reviews, coordination meetings, and utility outages.

  • Coordinate weekend, shutdown, and outage work with contractors, facility teams, and manufacturing operations.

  • Manage daily construction activities and serve as the liaison between field construction and project management teams.

  • Prepare field engineering reports and provide project status updates.

  • Coordinate RFIs, field change orders, and construction documentation.

  • Monitor equipment installations for compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Assist with project estimating, scheduling, material coordination, and purchase order management as required.

  • Support continuous improvement of engineering standards, specifications, and construction practices.

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience supporting industrial or commercial construction projects.

  • Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and field execution.

  • Experience with mechanical system installation, startup, and commissioning.

  • Ability to review engineering drawings and apply technical information in the field.

  • Knowledge of applicable building codes and industry standards including:

    • IBC

    • NEC

    • NESC

    • NFPA

    • ASME

    • ASHRAE

    • FM

  • Experience managing contractors and coordinating construction activities.

  • OSHA 10 Certification.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and project coordination skills.

  • Proficiency with:

    • Microsoft Excel

    • Microsoft Word

    • Microsoft PowerPoint

    • Microsoft Outlook

    • Microsoft Project

    • AutoCAD

    • Bluebeam

  • Automotive manufacturing or industrial manufacturing experience.

  • 5+ years of mechanical design experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PMP Certification

  • OSHA 30 Certification

  • Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud / Autodesk Build

  • Experience supporting large-scale manufacturing facility construction projects
