To thrive as a Developer Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, a deep understanding of software development processes, and usually a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with project management tools like Jira or Trello, agile methodologies, and certifications such as PMP or Scrum Master are often required. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help foster collaboration between technical teams and stakeholders. These skills ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the desired quality standards in a dynamic tech environment.

How does a Developer Project Manager typically balance hands-on development tasks with project management responsibilities?

A Developer Project Manager often wears two hats—leading the project while contributing technically. Balancing these responsibilities requires strong time management and prioritization skills. Generally, the project manager will allocate specific hours for coding or technical reviews and dedicate separate blocks for meetings, planning, and stakeholder communication. Clear delegation of tasks to team members and the use of project management tools also help maintain this balance, ensuring neither aspect is neglected. This hybrid role offers valuable insight into both project oversight and technical execution, making it ideal for professionals who enjoy both leadership and hands-on work.

All our work is produced in our state-of-the-art 80,000+ sqft. woodwork shop, located just southwest of Boston in Norton, Massachusetts.
Our team is made up of more than 90 of the industry's most sought-after professionals, including craftsmen, engineers, project managers and installation teams. We have raised the industry bar by not only providing top-quality craftsmanship, but also an exceptional customer experience. Our goal is to hire and support great people with the hope they grow and eventually retire with us. We're always willing to train people with minimal experience if they have the right attitude and ambition.
If you have a positive attitude, are looking for a place to build your future, and want to work on the most exquisite projects, then South Shore Millwork is the place for you!
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PROJECT MANAGER
As a Project Manager, you ensure that each project is executed seamlessly, on time, and as budgeted. You establish relationships with the customers, vendors, and contractors while providing exceptional customer service throughout the project. Your warm and friendly demeanor helps you to secure repeat business as you ensure ongoing communication, problem resolution, and customer satisfaction.
Using your superior leadership skills, you direct and oversee all phases of the project, coordinating with the customer and all internal departments. You regularly develop accurate estimates, keep track of costs, review architectural drawings, requisition materials, confirm order placement, monitor the shop fabrication process, and coordinate team meetings. To ensure the highest quality of all of our products and the best customer experience possible, you verify dimensions prior to fabrication, generate custom accessory quantity takeoffs, review vendor delivery performance, specify shipping dates, and perform project audits upon completion.
You see each project through to the end by sub-contracting installations and conducting job site reviews with the installers to address any issues. With attention to detail, you ensure that all documentation is properly entered into the database. You take pride in overseeing each millwork project and ensuring impeccable and exquisite finished products.
